Summary

The author is excited about making significant progress in 2022 by launching a business and publishing a second book, emphasizing the power of setting 10X goals for transformative change.

Abstract

The author reflects on overcoming self-doubt to write their first book despite previous writing challenges, setting the stage for an even more ambitious year. In 2022, they plan to launch a business and publish a second book, drawing on the concept that 10X goals are more attainable and motivating than smaller incremental goals. This approach is inspired by Dan Sullivan's philosophy that a 10X mindset forces one to think bigger and more futuristically, creating excitement and energy that pulls the present towards a more significant achievement. The author illustrates the importance of a compelling vision with examples such as a friend's NGO in Cambodia using vision boards to inspire abused girls and the historical Apollo 11 moon landing as a result of JFK's 10X vision. They also cite Grant Cardone's perspective on the importance of setting high goals to engage people emotionally and intellectually, and Benjamin Hardy's idea of strategic ignorance to focus on long-term objectives. The author encourages readers to envision their own 10X leap in the next three years and to set specific goals to make that vision a reality.

  • A 10X vision helps to eliminate distractions and align daily actions with future aspirations.
  • The author challenges readers to visualize their future and commit to specific goals that will bring them closer to their 10X leap.

Why I’m Thrilled to Make a Massive Leap in 2022

10X goals are easier to achieve than 2X.

Last year I made a big leap. I wrote my first book.

Writing a book is no simple task, and I struggled to believe I could pull off such a challenging project. I soon discovered crafting a meaningful and heartfelt book for singles is a more demanding endeavor than I ever imagined.

Along the way, I had many attacks of self-doubt.

This endeavor helps me discover the keys to success. I managed to make a giant leap in a year.

I dreamed of becoming a published author, which was a crazy leap for me. Did I mention that I was a poor writer in school? I often failed my essay writing assignments. And I hated writing.

I’m going to make a massive leap in 2022 once again. I’m launching my business, and I’ll publish my second book.

Your Big Leap in 2022

Are you ready to make a giant leap too?

Imagine doing a 10x jump. Yes, a massive leap.

Dan Sullivan, the founder of Strategic Coach, said, “10X is easier than 2X.”

It’s been said that if you do 2x, you start with the present. You don’t go to the future. Instead, you go to the past. It’s not big enough to go look for new ways outside of what you know.

What’s more, 2x is not very exciting. There lies the issue. It’s not exciting. There’s no excitement for you. And when you’ll tell someone about it, it’ll not be exciting to them.

It doesn’t cause any spark, inspiration, or movement. And here is the thing, if there is no spark, there is no excitement.

With the 10x mindset, you start with the future, not the present or the past. You come back and grab the present.

Because 10x is so much bigger than what you have experienced, it requires change and challenge to think much bigger. The discovery and energy then pull your present moment towards it.

You Need a Compelling Vision

The other day I had the opportunity to visit my friend’s NGO in Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh. He built a home for sexually abused girls. They sometimes pick up those girls coming from difficult family situations on the street.

I loved what I saw there. He had them make a vision board they stuck on the walls of the room they meet every day.

One girl wants to travel to Japan. Another wants to become a singer. Another a chef.

A compelling vision keeps the dreams of those girls alive.

Likewise, such a vision enabled the Americans to go to the moon.

John F. Kennedy said in 1962, “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

It was a 10X vision. It required them to change the actions they would take radically.

And a giant leap they made. The Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the moon before the end of the decade.

You Need Big Goals

A vision alone is not enough. You need a plan to materialize your dreams.

Grant Cardone, the author of The 10X Rule, said, “The biggest mistake most people make in life is not setting goals high enough.” When you set a goal to reach a 10x bigger future, something immediately happens to your thinking, your ideas, your decision-making, your communication, and your determination.

Small goals don’t engage people the same way intellectually and emotionally.

One of the things that Grant Cardone talks about in his book is most people don’t like having big goals, because they don’t like setting themselves up for failure and disappointment.

There’s a common saying that expectations are what lead to unhappiness, unfulfilled expectations, that’s garbage, according to Grant.

He said, “It’s not unmet expectations that create unhappiness, it’s not living your life to a high level, it’s not actually taking extreme action and watching yourself succeed.”

Action Step: Prepare Your Big Leap

I challenge you to visualize your 10x jump three years from now.

  • Ask yourself these questions: Where will I be?
  • What will I do?
  • How will I have improved as a person?
  • What will I have learned?

When visualizing your giant jump, don’t have your anchor date too far out big because you can make multiple big leaps in 10 years. Three years is a reasonable time frame.

Get locked in on your vision of your future state.

Benjamin Hardy said, “You’re optimizing your life also for strategic ignorance. Strategic ignorance means you stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. You stop worrying about all the distractions, all the fear of missiong out, you stop worrying about your lesser goals, you get locked in on your goal for your future self.”

That’s why you need a 10x goal.

Once you’re clear on your 3-year vision, break it down to three specific goals you’re committing to this year.

The Takeaway

A clear vision of your future state helps you to stay on track.

It enables you to say, “No!” to distractions.

And it will give you the energy and motivation to get closer to it one step at a time, one day after another.
