Why I will Continue to Write

Writing has not made me money but I want to be a writer — I will continue for that dream.

A friend of mine inspired me to start a blog three years ago. I was not having a good day and was not happy with my career choices at the time. He asked me what I liked doing. I told him that I liked writing, traveling, and food. So, he gave me the idea to start a blog. I did not know a lot about blogging and the only writing experience I had besides school was journaling. I had always wanted to start a blog. I attempted several times but they never stuck. My friend gave me the push and direction and I am very thankful for him for that. Now, its been three years and I can not imagine my life without my blog or writing. February 8, 2017, was my first blog post called Work Mornings. Ever since then, I have not stopped writing. There have been times where I have taken breaks but I always go back.

I heard about Medium through a YouTuber, Shelby Church. I was amazed, I could actually get paid to write? Every time people ask me what I want to do, I say I want to be a Freelance writer. I felt like Medium was my chance to accomplish that. There was a time, I was thinking about deleting Medium because I felt overwhelmed. A lot of writers here would get a lot of claps and views and they had just started Medium. I was the opposite, I did not get a lot claps and views. It felt like I was failing. If it was not for them, I would not be here writing this. Medium can also help me improve my writing. I do get intimated by other writers on Medium but I need to remember every writer has been where I have.

My blog has 281 followers and I have not made any money from it. I try to post once or twice a week but that does not happen. Lately, I have been posting once every two weeks. Even now, as I am writing this, I feel like I have writer's block. 2020 has also made it difficult for me to write. It’s been hard for me to concentrate on writing or even watching a movie. I think it’s all the stress and anxiety that has happened this year. What has helped me write is making a plan. First, I will think about what I want to write about, then I will divide that post into sections, and finally, I write the post.
