Why I Took a Break from Medium and Came Back!

The wonderful Medium family

Writing experience

I joined Medium originally in August 2021 when we were still dealing with Covid lockdowns. My experience of writing for fun at that point was blogging, tweeting and a few diary entries over the years.

I began to enjoy compiling articles with accompanying photographs; the more I wrote, the more I learned about the process itself. I gleaned many valuable tips from experienced writers about writing style and structure, subheadings, grammar, writing footnotes and acknowledging sources. This was extremely helpful for self-publishing three devotional books on Amazon — heartfelt thanks to the Medium family.

Incentive

My incentive for writing was not driven by possible earnings, as I live in a country (Cyprus) not listed on the Partner Program at that time. The kind feedback and comments stimulated and inspired me to share photos and experiences.

I became richer by learning about other people and their lives. Others go through similar situations to our own and it is comforting to read their advice for navigating through trials. As William Nicholson wrote:

We read to know we’re not alone.

With time, however, my work schedule got busier and I began to feel somewhat overwhelmed with the comments and follows. I decided I would take a break rather than ignore the community spirit on Medium — I hoped other writers would realise I was inactive.

Recently, I realised how much I missed the buzz and input from Medium. It is a unique source of information written on a personal level by real people. So much of what we read nowadays is AI-generated — here I can read genuine opinions and life lessons from fellow writers.

Happy to be back

How lovely to have access to member-only articles and to be able to interact once again. An added bonus is the Partner Program that is now available in Cyprus!

I may not be able to contribute frequently, but I feel like I am back home among my fellow writers.

I would like to mention writers who bring cheer to my day as they write about their lives/nature/travel/spirituality:

Dennett, Kim Zuch, Barb Dalton, K. Barrett, Anne Bonfert, Julie Ranson, Ccgordon, Sherry Kappel, Mary Gallagher, Katharine Trauger, Quy Ma, Mystical Aries, and Dr. Seema Patel (PhD).

Also thank you to my newest followers: John Martin, John Michalak, Liam Sandford, JEFF HILLES, Dan Pfeifer, Evan Reister, Anita Osasona, Author Emily and J.K.Hammond.
