Why I Think You Have Potential

“It knows when you are sleeping It knows when you are awake the YouTube algorithm does not care watch this attack ad for goodness sakes”

November is right around the corner, by the corner, I mean a few months away. This means if you have not been bombarded yet with political attack advertisements you will be soon. Political attack advertisements are a great way to manipulate the audience into thinking either positively or negatively about a candidate. More often than not, these attack advertisements focus on personal attributes about the candidate rather than policy-based issues.

For example:

Ted Grapefruit SLEEPS WITH a night light. Is Ted Grapefruit afraid of the dark? His medical records prove that he is. TED said, “I don’t care about sleep.” OHIO deserves a candidate that will fight for you whether it is light or dark. I AM that candidate. My name is Robert Redstone and I approve of this message.

After reading that, how do you feel about Ted Grapefruit? Do you think positively or negatively about him?

Instead of attacking someone’s character, I want us to focus on the positive attributes of our fellow writers. Each of us brings something unique to Medium and that should be highlighted.

All political advertisements follow this formula:

  • Name of candidate (Ted Grapefruit)
  • The issue (Sleep problems)
  • “Evidence” of the issue (medical records)
  • Out of context quote (“I don’t care about sleep)
  • WHY you should vote for the other candidate (I will fight for you)
  • I approve this message

For this challenge, you must positively highlight a writer using the political advertisement formula. You are not limited to one writer. If you recently discovered a writer and want to compliment their work, now is the time!

I will get us started:

Mark Starlin is a TOP writer in reading, fiction, and music. His articles make readers across Medium laugh uncontrollably. His brand of humor is accessible to all audiences. Mark cares about his fellow writers. He gives advice and constructive criticism. My name is Zach J. Watson and I approve of this message.

Eli Snow is a brilliant poet. She is a TOP writer in poetry. Her ability to paint a picture with her poems should be highlighted in college textbooks. She has inspired many including myself. My name is Zach J. Watson and I approve of this message.

Campaign team, assemble! I challenge Charles Roast, Andrew Knott, Elle Rogers, Rasheed Hooda, and Simran Kankas to positively highlight their fellow writers.
