Why I Recommend Writers To Start Their Own YouTube Channel
Writers, diversify your income

I have a YouTube channel focused on Programming and business. I upload videos every single day, for 45 days and this is what I have learned.
We all know that YouTube is now becoming the fastest-growing social media platform. It has become the first stop for all the creators who wanna build a meaningful business. Many creators have made a sustainable livelihood off of their content.
Why do I say the fastest? Any proof?
Well, I will be answering this from a content creator’s point of view.
I already mentioned my one YouTube channel before. The screenshot from my YouTube dashboard shows the first time I uploaded the video. This is from my second YouTube channel. The first one was on the Web Designing niche and I started it during the Pandemic. I haven’t touched the account since then.
July was the last time I uploaded my last video.
Since then I haven’t uploaded any. For me, I thought it is worthless to have a YouTube channel as I wanted to do writing full time.
But I have seen some amazing results on my YouTube Channel even when I have stopped uploading on it. The results are fewer in numbers but remember the video quality was average and I did no promotion.
- I see an increase in watch time.
- I see an increase in subscribers. I got a few more subscribers this month.
- I got comments on my previous videos and they asked me to complete the series. I will but not until I have completed the projects I have already started.
What does this mean to us, as content creators/writers?
- We will be making money every single day once it gets monetized. Yes, it depends on your hard work.
- YouTube will recommend your video to more audiences.
- One more income stream for writers.
I have accounts on almost every platform. Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Medium.
Facebook has failed miserably. No organic traffic at all.
Instagram is behind this. I get only 1 or 2 followers a month if I don’t upload or engage daily.
Tumblr is okay. I get 5 followers at the start of the month and then lose 3 till the end. This has been going on for the last couple of weeks.
Pinterest does give a lot of impressions on our pins. But I haven’t seen an increase in followers.
I’ll be skipping Medium here as I have already written about it.
So I am left only with YouTube. By far, only YouTube and somewhat Medium are giving me organic traffic.
So far of all, I can say that YouTube is giving me organic growth even though I haven’t uploaded there since July 2022. And I won’t say that the views are increasing every single month but they are constant. It’s like the YouTube algorithm wants to get out new videos to more audiences. But the number of views is maintained throughout the months.
So, if you are a writer, I advise you to be on YouTube. Consistency is not necessary in case you have other commitments. Once a week uploaded will be the best way to start a new income stream for you this year!
I will end here. As I discover more about YouTube, I will share it with my fellow readers.
And if you are a writer like me, then add YouTube to your portfolio. More exposure means more money, my fellow writers!
