Why I Quit Playing it Safe and Started Taking Risks

Taking risks is something that I have come to truly appreciate

I was always a risk-averse person.

Growing up, my parents told me that it was important to play it safe and not take chances because we could never really know what would happen in life.

The older I got, though, the more I realized that there’s no point in living life if you’re only going to play by other people’s rules or stay within your comfort zone at all times.

Nowadays, I’m constantly challenging myself with new experiences and learning new things about myself in the process; this is why taking risks is something that I have come to truly appreciate.

I used to be a risk-averse person, but now I take chances all the time

If you’re like me, you have a tendency to play it safe.

You might be worried about the consequences of failure or success or both. But if you want to make a difference in your life, there’s no way around taking risks and learning from mistakes.

Here are some benefits of risk-taking:

  • Taking risks means that when things go well, they go really well!
  • It can feel amazing when something works out exactly as planned and nothing goes wrong at all (and even better if someone else helped).
  • When something does go wrong but somehow still turns out okay despite everything going against your best hopes for success that’s even better than just having things work out exactly as planned!
  • It gives us confidence about our future plans because we know that sometimes things don’t work out perfectly
  • But nevertheless, end up okay anyway when we take risks with them anyway and keep trying until we succeed one way or another…

Risks come with rewards

I’m not saying you should take every risk that comes your way.

There are some risks that are just plain stupid and won’t be worth your time, like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute or eating something poisonous because it looks good.

But many of the risks we avoid in life are actually worth taking, even if they don’t work out as planned, and sometimes even when they do!

The rewards outweigh the potential downsides so much that it’s worth taking them anyway. For instance:

  • If you never try anything new or different, then how will you know what kind of person/job/relationship might be out there for you?
  • You need to try new things before deciding whether or not they’re right for you (and vice versa).

If I hadn’t taken any risks during college and grad school like joining student organizations, going abroad for six months during my junior year abroad (which was amazing), and doing summer internships at companies around DC then I wouldn’t have gotten where I am today!

And who knows? Maybe one day soon those experiences will help me land my dream job or meet someone great at a networking event hosted by one of those organizations…

If you don’t try, you’ll never know

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that it’s okay to take risks; if you don’t try, you’ll never know what could have been.

You can’t know what you don’t know.

If someone says something like “I’m not sure I’m ready for a relationship right now,” or “I think maybe we should break up,

And then we just drop it without trying anything at all, we’ll never really know how things might have turned out if we had put ourselves out there.

Instead of playing it safe by staying silent and keeping quiet about our feelings.

Taking risks doesn’t mean that you’re going to fail

While it’s true that taking risks can be scary, the fact is that they don’t necessarily have to lead to failure.

You can take many kinds of risks without risking failure and if you’re afraid of failure, starting small may help you get comfortable with taking risks before moving on to bigger ones.

We all deal with fear, but it’s about overcoming that fear

Fear is a natural response to change, but it can also be paralyzing.

If you’re afraid of failing or getting hurt, you may avoid taking risks and putting yourself out there.

But fear isn’t always negative it can motivate you to do better and achieve more than ever before.

You just have to learn how to manage those fears so they don’t hold you back from reaching your goals!

Change your mind and make better choices for yourself

The first thing you need to know is that you can change your mind about things.

You don’t have to feel the same way about something your entire life; you can change your mind and make better choices for yourself.

Maybe you’ve been playing it safe for so long that it feels impossible to break out of this pattern, but trust me when I say that this is only because we are used to seeing things one way.

The same way they have always been done before us.

The reality is that our lives are not set in stone they can be changed if we want them to!

We just need some time (and maybe some help) to figure out what exactly those changes should look like before taking action on them.

Get out of your comfort zone

Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to grow as a human being and learn new things about yourself.

You can’t grow if you stay in your comfort zone.

If you’re always doing what’s familiar, then there’s no room for growth.

You need to push yourself to do things that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar, even if it makes your heart race or palms sweat because those feelings won’t last very long once the excitement sets in!

Learning new things is scary because it means changing: changing how we think about ourselves, our lives, and our identities.

Changing who we want others (or even ourselves) to see us as being, but most importantly changing the way we view risk and reward when making decisions based on those perceptions.

Benefits of taking risks

There are many benefits associated with taking risks and challenging yourself, including personal growth and fulfillment.

Taking risks can feel scary, but the rewards are worth it.

Taking a risk will help you grow as a person by allowing you to learn new things about yourself and challenge yourself in ways that might seem impossible at first glance.

You may even find that what seemed like an insurmountable obstacle turns out not to be so bad after all!

Taking risks also helps us feel fulfilled because they allow us to push past our comfort zones in order for us to experience something new or exciting ourselves.

Final words

I’ve learned that it’s important to take risks and challenge yourself.

Taking risks doesn’t mean you have to go skydiving or bungee jumping.

It could be something as simple as trying a new restaurant or reading a book on a topic you’re unfamiliar with.

If we all stop taking chances, then our lives will become stagnant and boring.

But if we push ourselves outside of our comfort zone every now and then (and maybe fail), then we’ll learn more about ourselves than ever before!
