Why I Plan on Giving a Round of Applause (50 Claps) to Every Article I Read Through
I’ll leave newer writers a solid 50 claps and highlight my favorite points.

Who knew tapping a little icon could mean so much?
Platforms like Medium were previously just bookmarks in my browser — merely a pitstop.
I’d swoop in, grab the nuggets of wisdom I was after, and jet off without a trace.
The clap icon? Barely even noticed it.
Then, as time passed and I decided to dip my toes into the world of content creation, I signed up to pen my thoughts on Medium.
I’ve always had this tiny bucket list goal: to share my musings with the world through blogging.
It wasn’t about being the next viral sensation; I just wanted to know I tried.
As I started pouring my heart and thoughts into articles, I began noticing the little things — like the subtle nudge to applaud articles.
Initially, it seemed arbitrary. I mean, why give a virtual clap? Isn’t reading the article appreciation enough?
But then, an epiphany struck.
Each tap on that icon wasn’t just a robotic action; it was a nod, a pat on the back, a silent cheer from a reader.
It was a way to say, “Hey, I see the effort you put into this. Kudos!”
So, I’ve begun a new ritual. Every time I finish reading an article, regardless of whether I agree with it or not, I’ll give it a hearty 50 claps.
Why 50? Well, why not?
It’s the maximum you can give on Medium, and in a world where we often hold back our appreciation, why not go all out?
Some might argue it dilutes the value of the clap. “Shouldn’t we reserve our applause for only the standout pieces?” they’d ask.
To them, I say: in a time where algorithms reign supreme and human interaction is dwindling, every bit of encouragement through engagement counts.
Every writer, novice or pro, benefits from that small token of appreciation.
Plus, as I’ve learned, clapping isn’t just for the author.
It’s a two-way street.
Every time I clap, it’s a reminder to myself to be generous, to recognize effort, and to be an active participant in the creative community, not just a passive consumer.
There’s also something innately satisfying about it.
It’s like leaving a tip at a restaurant after a delightful meal, or giving a street performer a nod for their talent.
It’s a tiny gesture, but it carries weight.
Next time you come across an article, whether it’s a mind-blowing expose or a simple musing, give it a clap.
Heck, hold the clap icon just a little longer and give it 50.
It might just make someone’s day. And who knows, it might brighten yours a little too.
Now watch what magically happens when you click and hold the clap button.
