RELIGIOUS HUMOR

Why I Muted Religious Publications On Medium

Pastor threatens: If I don’t read his story I will go to hell

Okay, this never happened. But you can still read it for the fun of it.

People share their stories on Medium Facebook groups, and it is all fine. We all do that. Adding a one-line text along with the story link is not a crime. But what if that text looks like ‘ If you saw this story-link comment and did not bother to read, you will go to hell.’ Why scare me with such comments?

Moreover, it puts me in a kind of perplexity: whether to read the boring religious bullshit or to ignore the comment and go to hell afterward. But I had already seen the comment, I cannot unsee it. The problem with my mind is that if at all I ignore reading that story, it will emotionally blackmail me by saying ‘I will go to hell if I do not read it as per what the pastor said’.

This had happened quite a number of times, and every time I ignore the story my mind would torture me. So in order to escape from mental torture, I began to read those boring stories a couple of times. But not anymore, it is full of guilt-tripping and sin warnings. Reading them makes me look like a sinner and makes my life more hellish than it already is.

I know everyone wants to make some money, at least good enough to pay the membership fees so that they can write a lot without feeling like a loser. But threatening me that I will go to hell is certainly not the way to make money.

I pondered about it and realized that it is better to mute such publications and writers and later go to hell after I die than to make my current life a hell. I hope the pastor does not see this story and further find ways to guilt-trip or bully me.

Or maybe if things get tougher, I might consider joining one such publication and could make some money out of it. If one could take advantage of unconscious guilt associated with hardcore believers, why shouldn't I do the same? After all, money does not care how I make it, right?
