Why I Miss the “How I Plan to Make a Gabillion Dollars” Articles of 2 Years Ago

They were so calculative and filled with dreams

2 years ago. When Medium was still the platform where writers could dream of a hefty pay check.

And barely anything felt like a competition. There used to be articles from writers detailing a laid-down plan to earn (X) dollars at the end of the month.

The articles highlighted the writer’s hopes and dreams. I was zoned into their world of calculations and positivity.

It was interesting because I like calculations, combining that with earnings, and I couldn’t ignore.

Also, my highest earning was 0.27 dollars, so those pieces were inspiring.

I miss those articles.

Fast forward to the present, and similar articles are filled with complaints of missing earnings. Medium not paying for used features(audio). And views, stats, and earnings on an all-time low.

It is disheartening to read. I try to read and clap to as many articles as I can. It’s my own way of saying keep going. On occasions, I leave a comment, all in the hope that the writing economy of the platform will get better. Then, I can get back to reading those hopeful articles.

And obviously, my earnings get even better.

Best of luck to any writer that depends on the partner program as a primary source of income.

May the heavens look down on you.
