Why I Keep My Mouth Shut About My Hopes and Dreams — The Evil Eye
Is this paranoia or self-preservation?

In the past few years, I noticed a disturbing but undeniable trend.
When I tell people my plans and aspirations, a chain of unfortunate events happen. This misfortunate chain of events either delays or completely derails my plans.
Some recent examples are:
Getting a new apartment:
For this, I jumped hoops! I wanted a new apartment, and I made sure everyone knew it. But each time I was close, something went inexplicably wrong. So I kept my mouth shut. I did not tell anyone of the location, the price, or even that I found a prospective place. Everything quickly worked out.
A meeting with a long-lost close relative:
A series of fortunate events led to this close relative moving close to my hometown. I was emotional and vulnerable and told everyone who would listen. I told people about my soon-to-be encounter, and the person I was supposed to meet disappeared without a trace.
I believe I was at the receiving end of the evil eye.
The evil eye exists across cultures with mild variations, but the general theme of envy is ubiquitous.
What is the Evil Eye?

Giving the Evil Eye is effectively placing a curse on the recipient of the envious glare.
The under arching theme amongst those that give the evil eye is envy. Another fascinating aspect about the evil eye is that people give it unconsciously. That is right — the intent of the envious individual does not matter. Simply having feelings of envy toward another is enough to bestow the Evil Eye.
Envy is a Christian sin for a reason!
The Evil Eye is present in Islam and Judaism, and many religious texts decry the potential malice of the evil eye. Those practicing Judaism are discouraged from bragging about possessions or accomplishments as a means of protection.
Mal de Ojo in Latin America, babies are given bracelets for protection against affliction from the evil eye.
The Evil Eye symbology is deeply ingrained in history, arts and, paintings. You would be more hard-pressed to find a culture that does not believe in the evil eye than to list all that do believe.
How Do You Protect Against the Evil Eye?

So people walk amongst us, with the power to cast bad luck, merely with a gaze. Quel Horreur!
A natural question is: how can we be protected against the evil eye?
Many cultures use jewelry, necklaces, and bracelets to ward off the energy of envious people.
The prayers of elders are another powerful tool against the Evil Eye.
How I Protect Myself Against the Evil Eye
Ancient cultures say that people do not consciously give the evil eye. Unfortunately, the useless feeling of envy flows through the veins of many.
I am certainly not advocating that others follow my methods; I am just sharing what I have found effective.
I do not go into great detail about something I am trying to achieve. If people are unaware of my massive undertakings, they will be less likely to feel envious.
I have achieved better results when I do not tell others about my illustrious plans for world domination ;)
