Why I Believe Packing Cubes Are Worth All the Hype
I Never Travel Without Mine

If you haven’t discovered packing cubes yet, it’s time you did. Packing cubes (aka packing cells) are the best invention for travellers, for so many reasons.
Why Are Packing Cubes So Important?
There’s nothing worse than rifling through your suitcase or backpack, trying to find that one piece of clothing. Everything gets thrown around and you end up ankle-deep in clothes.
So much for packing your suitcase carefully.

Introducing the Amazing Packing Cube!
Believe it or not, packing cubes are underrated. They will change your life for the better. Don’t believe me? Read on to learn how.
Staying Organised
Have you ever felt more stressed when you arrive at your destination? You open your suitcase and you can’t see the item of clothing you need. You rummage around, then start to panic. Did you even pack that item? Where the hell is it?
Organizing similar types of clothing or specific outfits into packing cubes will eliminate loads of stress.
Scenario #1
You’ve arrived at your resort, and all you want to do is put on your swimsuit and settle into a sun lounge, with a cocktail in hand. But where the hell is your swimsuit?
Packing cubes will solve this problem. All you need is a couple (or more) packing cubes, and everything will be organized and in its place. Your items will be easily found. No more mess.
Scenario #2
You’re a business traveller and you’re running late for a meeting. You need to change into your business meeting outfit but can’t find the right top.
You open your suitcase and start throwing clothes onto the bed. Finally, you’ve found that top, but it’s all creased and needs to be ironed.
Packing cubes are your lifesaver. Pack your meeting outfit onto one cube, neatly folded (or rolled if you prefer) so that your outfit doesn’t get crushed. Locate the cube, unpack your outfit, get dressed and you’ll be out the door in no time at all!
*Note: I’ve found rolling my clothes rather than folding eliminates most wrinkles.
Space Saving
Some packing cubes can even be compressed down to save more space. And it’s fair to say, we always need more space when packing for that all-important trip.

What to Look for in a Packing Cube
There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a packing cube. What you do need to think about is where you’re travelling to and what you’ll be packing. Here are some things to keep in mind.
Material
You definitely need a soft material for packing. Hard cubes won’t make packing any easier and will take up more space. Some retailers will even sell cubes made from recycled materials. Water-resistant and waterproof materials are also available.
Zippers
Hardy zippers are important. If the zipper breaks, then the cube becomes useless.
Handles
Each packing cube should have a handle. This makes it so much easier to pull out your cube without disrupting the rest of your luggage. It’s even more important to have a handle if you are using a backpack if it’s designed to stuff your items in from the top.
Size
Packing cubes come in all sizes. I like to have a variety of different sizes, small for underwear and larger for pants, tops, shoes and the like.
Colours
Have a favourite colour or want your items colour coded? Cubes can be found in all kinds of colours. Purchase different colours to help identify between cubes. Pink for underwear, blue for tops and so on.
Types of Packing Cubes
There are many types of packing cubes on the market, but the following are some important types to consider (in my opinion).
Padded Cubes
Your clothes don’t necessarily need a padded packing cube, but if you have electronics, tech gear or anything that needs a little more protection, then padded is the way to go.
Waterproof or Water-Resistant
If there’s any chance that you’ll be travelling where the weather isn’t always perfect, then waterproof or water-resistant packing cubes will be your best friend.
Compression Cubes
Compression cubes are next-level space-savers if you tend to overpack. They generally come with two zippers, one that can be zipped up after you squeeze the air out to create more space in your suitcase. They work in a similar way to a vacuum bag.
