avatarFollowing God

Summary

The article discusses the concept of Hell as an eternal state of separation from God, emphasizing that it is a result of one's own choices and the refusal to align with divine values.

Abstract

The author of the article presents a perspective on why Hell is an enduring state for those who reject God. It is likened to a relationship where one has access to everything good but chooses to distance themselves due to a clash of values. The article suggests that Heaven is reserved for those who fully embrace God's teachings, while Hell is the ultimate consequence for those who refuse to compromise their own flawed definitions of good. It underscores the unfairness of rejecting God's offer of redemption through Jesus Christ, despite God's continuous provision of all that is good in life. The author reflects on the nature of immortal beings, asserting that their actions have eternal consequences and that the existence of Hell serves to uphold the significance of one's choices and the need for justice. The article also touches on the theme of mercy, cautioning that while it is a virtue, extending it to those who persistently reject goodness can lead to grave errors.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Hell is a self-imposed state for those who choose to remain distant from God due to a fundamental disagreement with divine principles.
  • It is expressed that the suffering in Hell is justified because it reflects the eternal nature of the choices made by individuals, and that erasing these consequences would undermine the value of their existence.
  • The article posits that even with ample opportunity to change, some individuals will persist in their ways, suggesting that their nature is inherently resistant to goodness.
  • There is a contemplation about whether collective prayer could influence God's judgment, yet it acknowledges that those in Hell would likely remain indifferent to the plight of the righteous.
  • The author emphasizes that mercy must be dispensed wisely, as it can be misplaced, especially towards those who are deemed undeserving due to their unrepentant nature.
  • The opinion is held that some individuals are beyond redemption and have chosen Hell by their unwillingness to align with God's definition of good, thus Hell lasts forever by their own volition.

Why Hell Lasts Forever

Have you ever had someone that could offer you whatever you wanted, but when you got to know them, you didn’t like them? Their behavior, what they stood for, who they kept around them… So, you agree to disagree, you respect the person, but you keep your distance from them.

However, the person wants you, and for you to be able to benefit from what they have to offer, you have to want them also.

You refuse. And so, they make your life a living hell. However, you continue to refuse. You’d rather be abused, homeless, end your life…, than to be part of someone or a group that doesn’t match your values.

You know things would be good if you would simply compromise. Things would be good even though you wouldn’t feel good.

And so, I think that’s what Heaven is for unbelievers or believers who pick and choose which sin is okay and which is not. Because I know that’s how I feel every day on this Earth.

Everything that’s good, that feels good is thanks to the Almighty. Even the things you think are yours by merit. God. God did it. No one and nothing else did.

Therefore, when you refuse God, you’ll be away from everything that’s good.

“Well, that’s not fair!” You’re completely right. It’s not fair that God gave you everything and you spit in His face. It’s not fair that Jesus came to die a brutal death for your sins, and you can’t even pick up the Bible, stick to it, and read it over and over again until you go to meet Him.

It’s not fair that you’re willing to work for temporary material stuff but are not willing to work for someone who works for you 24/7. It’s not fair. But still, you live your life like nothing’s happening.

Tomorrow you’ll be better. But why can’t you start right now? Wasn’t tomorrow 5 years ago? Ten?

Maybe Hell shouldn’t last forever. However, you were made in God’s image. Meaning you are an immortal being, whether you like it or not. Your choices, your actions have consequences that ripple through eternity.

Therefore, even if God removed you from existence, you’d still be in His memory. And when you erase something is because you made a mistake. But God makes no mistakes. Beings who aren’t Him do. And so, they end up in Hell. And if you cease to exist, it will make you meaningless. Which you are not, never have been and never will be.

Even if you suffer for a trillion years, when you cease to exist it would be like you, your deeds, your pain, punishment never mattered. And that is the thing that is not fair. We all need to pay for our misdeeds. Unless… Unless we put our trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, accept the Holy Spirit and go and sin no more.

Forgetting about Hell for a second… When wicked people get caught, they like to think if they could go back in time, they would have learned their lesson and changed their ways. But no, they probably wouldn’t have. The lesson they probably would’ve learned, it would have been what not to do to not get caught. Their hearts would still be the same.

All of this to say God gives us plenty of time to change, to come to Him. I only became a believer at 28 years old. Some were older and others in their death bed.

So, there’s no need to make an excuse of “If only I could go back. If I knew what I know now. If I had more time”. No! God knows who’s who.

When God was about to kill the Israelites, Moses prayed, and God relented. And so, sometimes I like to think if all believers in Heaven prayed together so God could take people out of Hell, but keep them away from us, if that would work.

But then I’m reminded if it were the other way around, exactly like in this life, they wouldn’t even care about our eternal punishment.

However, even being 100% sure of that, I still like to wonder if that would work. And I guess that’s what makes us different from them.

Thank God, thank God, God is running things, and He knows everyone’s hearts. Because if it were me running things, I’d probably be letting everyone in.

Mercy is good, but if you give it to the wrong people you can end up making the worst mistake of your life.

It’s hard to accept because we like them, but some people definitely deserve to go to Hell forever. There’s no changing them. They don’t want to. They’re not willing to compromise to what’s good. They have their own definition of good. And so, Hell lasts forever because they so choose.
