Why He Acts Interested, Then Disappears
The story’s the same: getting ghosted hurts.
Ever found yourself asking why someone who seemed really into you suddenly vanished?
It’s like one moment, you’re on top of the world, feeling special because of all their attention, and the next, you’re left hanging, wondering what went wrong.
This situation is more common than you might think, and I’ve seen it time and time again, both personally and in my coaching practice.
It leaves you puzzled, hurt, and asking a million questions.
Let me tell you about a situation a friend of mine, Emily, found herself in. She met a guy who, for all intents and purposes, seemed perfect for her.
They clicked right away, laughing and sharing stories as if they’d known each other forever.
They spent weeks getting closer, and then suddenly, he was gone. No texts, no calls, no explanation.
Emily was left wondering what happened, replaying their time together, looking for clues.
Her experience is far from unique and shines a light on the confusing reality of dating today.
In my travels and through my coaching, I’ve seen that the sting of someone disappearing without a word is a common pain shared across different cultures and backgrounds.
But why does it happen? Can we handle these situations with a bit more grace and understanding?
Let’s delve into the world of modern dating to find out why this happens and explore ways to deal with it.
Drawing from personal experiences and the strategies of The Forever Woman program, I’ll share insights on how to cope and move on stronger and wiser.
Let’s learn together how to turn these confusing moments into opportunities for growth and clarity.
The World of Dating Today
Dating now is like being in a giant online game where everyone is trying to figure out the rules as they go.
Thanks to apps and social media, meeting someone new is as easy as clicking a button.

But this easy come, easy go style also means people can disappear just as quickly, leaving you hanging.
I’ve seen it everywhere I’ve been, from the streets of Paris to the coffee shops of New York.
No matter where you are in the world, the story’s the same: getting ghosted hurts.
Why Do They Vanish?
So, why do some people express interest one day and then disappear? It’s usually not about you. Here are a few reasons:
- Scared of Getting Too Close: Some folks like the fun of meeting someone new but get cold feet when things start to get serious. They might be scared of commitment because of past relationships or personal issues.
- Different Wants: You might be thinking about a future together, while they were just looking for a good time. When they realize you’re not on the same page, they might pull back.
- Too Many Choices: With dating apps, there’s always someone new to meet. Some people find it hard to stick to one person because they’re always wondering if there’s someone “better” out there.

Here’s a quick story: I coached someone who loved dating around because he thought he’d miss out if he settled down.
Through our talks, he learned that this fear was stopping him from forming deeper connections.
It’s a common feeling, but realizing it can help us not take these ghostings to heart.
The Emotional Rollercoaster
Getting ghosted can make you feel rejected and confused. It’s normal to feel this way.

I’ve found that taking care of your mind and heart, through things like meditation or talking to friends, helps a lot.
It’s about dealing with the letdown and learning from it.
Moving On
What to do when someone just disappears? Here’s some advice:
- Think About What You Feel: It’s okay to be upset or sad. Let yourself feel these things. It’s the first step to getting over them.
- Take Care of You: Do things that make you happy and relaxed. Hang out with friends, try out a new hobby, or just chill with a good book.
- Learn From It: Every experience, even the bad ones, teach us something. Maybe you’ll realize what you really want in a partner, or you’ll see how strong you can be.

Wrapping Up
Sure, dating today can be tricky with all its ups and downs. But remember, when someone disappears, it’s more about them and their issues.
You? You keep being your awesome self. Focus on what makes you happy and what you want in a relationship.
The right person won’t just disappear — they’ll stick around because they can’t imagine being without you.
Let’s not see these ghosting moments as setbacks but as steps closer to finding someone who truly gets you.
