Why HBO Max’s Quarantine Cooking Show With Selena Gomez Is Perfect for Food Lovers

It’s basically “cooking for dummies” at your home

This is 2020, we are almost 6 months deep in quarantine at this point, and all of us have emerged as chefs of some calibre either by choice or circumstances. And that’s what HBO was counting on when they introduced Selena + Chef as their new original series. The show stars Selena Gomez in her unscripted cooking series filmed in her home during the quarantine. Each episode features Selena tackling a new cuisine and guest stars a different professional chef, where they cover tips and tricks and how to deal with disasters in the kitchen. The 10-episode series, which comes to HBO Max on August 13, was filmed remotely due to the ongoing corona-virus pandemic.

Each episode is 23–25 minutes long filmed with the help of sensor cameras and digital recording equipment. The crew operated remote cameras, rigged in Selena’s living room and kitchen, from outside.

The Line up for famous tutoring chefs is pretty exquisite as it features Angelo Sosa, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington, Roy Choi, and Tonya Holland. The show already dropped 3 episodes on 13th of August and its the best example of what all our “cooking for dummies” experiences are made of.

This seems to be a perfect show to cook-along with for all food lovers —

THE INCREDIBLE RECIPES

The above chef list should be enough backing for an incredible cooking show but the recipes are where it gets interesting. Selena is seen cooking pure basics like a french omelette to the souffle and sea-food salads in first three episodes. Not only does the show provides with exact ingredient lists or you can call it Mise En Place (you would know when you watch the show)but also the chefs tell you the exact quantities for all the ingredients. And all share their tips and tricks.

IT’S COOKING FOR DUMMIES

Selena has always said that if she wasn’t an actress or singer she would be a chef. And this is her first time in such a professional cooking setting. And that makes it so much more relatable. And if you are cooking live while the show is on and following the recipes as the chef says it feels like you really are in a “cooking for dummies crash course”; just the fun part is you have a talented mentor and equally immature cooking partner in Selena.

ITS ENTERTAINING AND FUNNY

From perfecting a french omelette to under-cooking the souffle the light tone of the show makes it funny and entertaining. And Selena’s rookie cooking experience makes the show endearing to watch. There are quirky moments when sly captions point out Gomez’s technical cooking moments.

IT’S FOR A CHARITY

Not only this but every culinary chef gets to choose a food-related charity and the show donates 10 thousand dollars for the same. The chef shares why they love to cook and what put them on their food journey. They also share how they are trying to give back to the community in these trying times.

We all have had some impromptu baking sessions in this quarantine, this show just gives food lover’s another excuse to enhance their culinary abilities.
