Why Have Your Email Subscription Notifications Stopped?

Find out how to fix problems with Medium subscriber emails

I subscribe to a lot of writers. I pick the ones I really like and subscribe to get an early heads-up when they publish.

Technically, this means that Medium sends me an email every time one of my writers adds a new article to the site. I don’t miss out on reading their work. I don’t have to search the site to find out if they’ve written anything recently.

However, this automated system sometimes stops working.

I’ll realise that I haven’t had any notifications from a regular or prolific writer for a while. Or, I’ll spot one of their new articles on the site and realise that I never got the email saying that they had published. A writer might have written loads of new articles, but I had no idea.

This is confusing.

If I can get into the writer’s account and read their stuff, then I know they haven’t blocked me. The email subscription icon on their home page is still selected.

Nothing has changed. But, no notification emails come through.

This is generally down to a glitch in the system. For some reason, you can sometimes get email notifications for ages, but they then stop coming completely.

In my experience, this tends to be a one-writer deal. Your other subscriptions work like they should.

There is an easy fix to this problem. If you unsubscribe to the writer and then subscribe again, the system seems to reset.

You should then start getting emails from this writer again when they next publish. Until the next glitch, of course.
