Why Gen Z Is So Important
They are the first generation to grow up with the internet as the unifying background that irrevocably links them all together
The Gen Z generation is getting a lot of news play right now because they have been thrust into the middle of a series of global crises they will have to solve. Gen Z are people born between 1996–2010 and they are linked and united in a way previous generations never were.
This is because they’re the first generation to be born into our world of modern technology. They grew up with it. They’ve been dubbed “digital natives,” the first generation to grow up with the internet as part of their daily lives.
As a result, they are digitally united in almost every way and share common viewpoints and values, separate and apart from the rest of modern-day society.
Millennials are an important part of the mix, but Gen Z will spearhead the upcoming social revolution.
What do they have in common?
1) They are first of all totally united in saving the planet from the ravages of climate change. They see it as an existential threat to their very existence, and of course they are right.
2) They strongly favor LGBTQ rights, gender equality, and routine access to abortion.
3) They are more racially and ethnically diverse than any other generation.
4) They have grown up with the pandemic and the setbacks it caused.
5) They have been the victims of the trauma of repeated mass school shootings and witnessed the hypocrisy of the gun lobby firsthand.
Why does it matter?
1) They are in a position to take advantage of all the technology now available, although they have a stronger belief in science than big tech.
2) They are the biggest generation ever, with almost 30% of the world’s population and approximately two billion members worldwide.
3) They believe in voting rights and think along the same lines.
4) Stress, anxiety, and loneliness bind them together.
5) They are smart and dedicated to saving the planet and living long, fruitful lives. They love nature and love life.
They are our best and our brightest, better educated than previous generations, and feel like their collective backs are against the wall. They are not wrong.
Gen Z has the optimism, strength, and energy of the young, and the technical knowledge to effect changes of far greater importance than earlier generations.
Their secret sauce, their superpower strength is solidarity born out of dire necessity. They realize the buck stops with them. They are result-oriented and will achieve their goals because they must.
The negativity, stupidity, and greed of the present generation of so-called leaders are not lost on them.
They have been forged and tempered in the heat, hatred, and hypocrisy of growing up in a world where values and virtues are turned upside down on a daily basis.
They have watched the present leaders plunge the whole world into danger of extinction through climate change and war.
Gen Z will work together as a progressive force to change the world they grew up in into a world where they can continue to survive.
They are more interested in belonging to inclusive supportive communities than in advancement in the business world.
Gen Z can see the errors of the past all too clearly, having witnessed them all their lives. They are not afraid of the challenge of saving the planet, they welcome it.
Gen Z will put an end to the corrupt gun lobby and the MAGA extremists with their policy of hatred and negativity.
They will see it through. They just want to live their lives in harmony, unity, and joy.
It won’t be easy, but there is nobody else to repair the damage that previous, less enlightened generations have created.
Have faith in them, they are the future.
For everything, there is a season. Gen Z’s time has come. We are all connected…
