Why Freedom is Risky and Why I Still Chose It

Know Thyself Heal Thyself Prompt: Freedom

Photo by Brazil Topno on Unsplash

Freedom is an elusive thing; as a caged bird, I longed for the stretch of my wings against the brisk morning air…

To find that having broken out of the cage, the wounds of achieving freedom made every flap pained, strained; taking away from an idealized dream: of freedom.

I still chose freedom.

For in freedom remains the hope, the choice for healing; freedom the mechanism for change worthy to endure.

I gambled. I chose the chance for growth at the risk of failure, over the guarantee of captivity.

Lucy (The Eggcademic) also wants to acknowledge that there is an immense privilege in having the ability to choose freedom. She commits to using this privilege to empower others in making their own decisions. Thank you to 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊. for her weekly prompt: Freedom.
