Who is Laura Nyro?

Probably one of the most interesting soul singers you’ve never heard of.

I talk about her and her song “Emmie” in this video:

One of the biggest things I discuss is why artists like this fade away. It’s really common happenstance in the 1001 Album challenge that I’ve been seeing. There are so many good albums/artists I haven’t heard of and when you look online, there is very little information about them. They’re hardly talked about or discussed.

This is for a simple reason: The onus is on the listener to share it with their family, their friends, and their communities.

So, if you like soulful music with interesting transitions with a uniquely beautiful voice, I urge you to check this artist and her album out. The only way we can preserve an underrated artist’s music is to keep listening, talking about, and sharing their work.
