Why Do You Write on Medium? I Started Writing to Make Money, But Then This Happened
I first learned about Medium in 2019 through Jon Morrow of Smart Blogger.
However, I did not use my account until I stumbled upon an article in October 2023 that talked about earning opportunities on the platform.
Since I was already familiar with it, I quickly signed up again and researched more about how creators were making money on Medium.
I watched videos and read articles about whether I should choose a niche or write about anything that came to my mind.
After a few days, I decided to write about Forex and Crypto trading since I was knowledgeable about those topics.
I chose the username “CryptoFX Traders Hangout,” but I soon realized I was more inclined to the cryptocurrency niche than Forex. Hence, I rebranded to CryptoBigStories and started sharing amazing stories about the cryptocurrency niche.

Writing for Passion
In the beginning, I wrote for passion without earning any money on this platform.
I shared my crypto knowledge so that my potential audience could find me and reward my hard work if they enjoyed reading my stories.
Although I desired to earn from my writing and felt inspired by those who regularly shared their earnings reports, I set a target to hit one thousand followers before joining the Medium Partnership program so I could start earning from my stories.
Luckily, it took me about four months to hit 1,000 followers, but it took less than 60 days to hit the 10,000 followers milestone after crossing the 1,000 followers milestone.
Today, my views and read ratio have increased, also increasing my earning potential.
On average, my stats showed 37K views and 25K reads for February, meaning that I have an excellent view-to-read ratio.

Finally, I joined the Medium Partnership program less than 30 days ago, and I have already seen the earning potential of this amazing platform.
Now, my dream of earning extra income from my writing is becoming a reality.
So, here are the things I did to get noticed on Medium:
- I chose a niche I am passionate and knowledgeable about.
- I rebranded my username to suit my niche.
- I shared free knowledge to gain the trust and confidence of my potential audience, and they followed me and continually engaged with my stories.
- I regularly engage with other writers who write amazing stories that I enjoy reading.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, I shared my goal for writing on Medium and how I accomplished the 10K followers milestone.
I would like to ask again, why do you write on Medium, and how has your journey felt so far? I would love to hear from you in the comment section to learn about what inspired you to write on Medium.
Thank you for reading.
