Why Do We Take Health for Granted When We’re Not Ill?

I’ve been stuck in bed since New Year’s Eve and I completely blame myself for not wrapping a scarf around my neck. My coat didn’t help matters because it exposed my neck and it was raining nonstop, which is typical British weather.

When I got home that night, I felt an annoying tingling feeling in my throat. Now, fast forward to today and I’m going to attempt to get rid of this cold or flu out of my system by tomorrow. I’ve taken two paracetamols, cough syrup, Strepsils, smeared Vicks on my chest, had ginger and garlic shots and made some lemon and honey green tea.

If I don’t feel better by the end of today, something is seriously wrong. I’ve got plans and work is calling me soon, so I need to get back on my feet as soon as possible.

It’s funny how we suddenly become health gurus when we’re sick, isn’t it?

Looking back on my last year of uni, I was all about a healthier way of life, I went vegan (which I still am), drank juices, did the ginger shots everyday, and snacked on salads and lentil chips. Now that I’m constantly sick, I’m wondering where all my good habits went since I started working.

No more workouts, I’m too tired to do anything and I’ve been skipping meals entirely. And when I do eat, it’s almost never anything fresh.

I’m making a resolution, as I did in my last post, this year must be the year I prioritise myself.

Three days into 2024, things aren’t looking good, but I’m determined to change that.
