100 Days Writing Challenge
Why Do We Read?
This is my take on reading — Episode 14
“If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.” — Roald Dahl
Ever since I started writing, I have realized one thing more than anything else. Being writers, we have to be honest and open. Not just to our readers but also to ourselves. Hence, if you do not inculcate this habit in yourself, it is better to seek another profession or pass time.
Well, the bitter truth for today is hard. But here it goes people — I don’t like reading much, ouch! My daughter literally yelled at me. “Baba! How can you not enjoy reading? You are a writer!” So, here I am folks with my confession and a promise to overcome this weakness. Soon.
How can we expect others to read our stories if we don't follow the same principle ourselves? I am not referring to the infamous clap for clap and follow the follower bull shit. But I only say that to create good content, we need to read good stuff too and lots of it.
As I was doing a little research for this story, I read a lot of quotes on the love of books and reading. Trust me, I had goosebumps while reading most of them and a few also made me cry. This one is a killer.
“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” — Ray Bradbury
