Favorite Movies of a Person Reveal a Lot About Him

Movies we like, give a reflection of our inner desires

When two people meet and they try to know each other better then invariably a question which helps in this context is — What are your favorite movies? We may be hiding some aspects of ourselves from others but answering this question shall reveal our inner desires and feelings. My personal favorite movies are Gladiator and Devdas which reveals quite some aspects of me that many people might not know. A detailed analysis is presented in this article.

We are not one person in front of others

As a person, we exercise the role of son, brother, colleague, boss, etc with different people. If we are acting as a son then we exhibit certain behaviors while if we are a boss then certain other behaviors are exhibited. Thus we do not show our complete true selves to everyone. Most people know only a part of ourselves.

Revelations from the movies we like

When we watch a movie, we are not trying to play a particular role as a friend, boss, etc. We are just a witness to the drama that is going on in the movie. This allows us to be our true selves. Whatever innate desires and feelings we have, we want to see an outlet for it in the movie. In doing so we do not apply any shield as we believe no one is focusing on us while watching the movie. If we are a person who thinks about the opposite sex more than most people then we will like romantic movies. If we are quite an angry person then we may like crime-related movies.

Within a particular genre also we may like one movie better than others. The reason for this may reveal more in-depth qualities about ourselves.

• If we are a person who believes in long term commitment then we may like those romantic movies where people in lead roles get married or at least are not in short term relationships.
• If we are interested in cars then we will like action movies where a lot of stunts involving various cars are shown.
• If we are against some conservative ideas then we will like movies where those ideas are ridiculed.

The recipient has to play the role of detective

When a person reveals his favorite movie to us then we (as a recipient) get an overall idea about the interest and desires of the person but if we want to find more in-depth qualities then we need to act as a detective and probe further.

Example: One of the reasons I liked the movie Gladiator was because of the commitment of Maximus towards his family. Even when he was wounded, he made his way towards his home to ensure that his family is safe. Though sadly his family members were killed before he arrived. In the movie, I was not interested in the fighting scenes. So even if someone knows that my favorite movie is Gladiator, he may still not be able to know the true reason. Upon asking further questions can one really know the kind of person I am.

Similarly, I liked the movie Devdas not because it glamorized drinking but because I am the kind of person who would wait for the opposite sex to approach me. I normally won’t make the first move. In the movie Devdas, the hero was to some extent approached by the heroines especially Chandramukhi.

Conclusion

A person’s favorite movie does tell a lot about the innate desires of the person but one can guess the true nature of the person only when he acts like a detective. Further questions like what incident in the movie did you like the most? can truly reveal the true character of the person. Again, I do not mean to judge every person but for certain cases like your would-be partner, it may help. To have compatibility with your partner it is better to know her innate desires and feelings which in the normal course may take quite some time to come to the surface.
