Summary

The article critically examines the Republican stance on healthcare, particularly the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and its implications during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting a perceived disregard for American lives.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses deep concern over the Republican Party's efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a policy that has been a cornerstone of healthcare reform in the United States. Despite promises of a better healthcare plan, the author notes that no viable alternative has been presented by Republicans, even as a pandemic rages on. The article highlights the irony that the death camps once warned about by Republicans in relation to the ACA have seemingly materialized under the current administration's handling of the COVID-19 crisis. It points out that the pandemic has not deterred Republicans from attempting to repeal the ACA, which would result in the loss of healthcare for many at a time when it is most needed. The author also criticizes the downplaying of the virus's severity, the encouragement of premature reopenings, and the lack of support for safety measures like mask-wearing. The article underscores the potential consequences of these actions, including the forced reopening of schools and the resulting risk to students, teachers, and communities, particularly in areas with inadequate internet access for distance learning. The author reflects on the growing death toll, which now includes members of the Republican base, and questions the motivations behind the party's policies, which seem to prioritize economic concerns over human life.

Opinions

  • The author believes that the Republican Party's opposition to the ACA is driven by partisanship and racial bias, rather than a genuine concern for the welfare of Americans.
  • The article suggests that the Republican promise of a superior healthcare plan to replace the ACA is dubious, as no such plan has been produced despite years of assurances.
  • The author accuses Republicans of hypocrisy for previously warning of "death camps" under the ACA, yet now contributing to conditions that have led to significant loss of life during the pandemic.
  • The article criticizes the current administration for its role in exacerbating the pandemic's impact, including the promotion of premature reopenings and the undermining of public health guidelines.
  • The author expresses cynicism about the motivations behind the push to reopen schools, suggesting it may be a reckless move that endangers lives for the sake of the economy.
  • The article conveys a sense of betrayal and frustration towards Republican leaders for what is perceived as a willingness to sacrifice the health and lives of Americans, including their own constituents, for economic gains or political objectives.

Why Do Republicans Want Us All Dead?

an unanswered question

Since the Affordable Care Act [ACA] was passed and enacted, many years ago, Republicans have worked to dismantle it — and dismantling it would kill many Americans.

At first, I’m sure it was because it got labeled ObamaCare and Republicans hated him — because he was Black and a Democrat. And it got passed on party lines — the R were lined up against it. They mostly still are…..

Those Republicans kept, and still keep, telling us they have a “better replacement” — one that would help more people and cost far less — hmmm….I’m still waiting to see any part of that plan — which has been promised for … how many years?????

During the runup to the ACA, we heard of death camps and the killing of your grandparents. This, the Republicans said, was what was going to happen if the ACA legislation were to pass.

Fast forward to 2020, and we are in the midst of a pandemic — and those Republicans are still trying to get the ACA thrown out — even though more people will lose their health care when they most need it.

Not content to dismantle ObamaCare, those same Republicans are letting us know that we older people won't mind dying for the good of the economy. And that the deaths of over 150000 people in the USA “is what it is” — and “it could be worse”….

Those death camps the Republicans talked about? Well — they have arrived — but not due to ObamaCare. They were created by the current Administration.

As I am writing this, a new ad appeared on Twitter — guess I’m not the only one thinking these thoughts — so — yes I retweeted it!

When the virus was hitting the bigger cities, most of them in what we call blue states with Democratic mayors and governors, I thought ok they wanted all the Democrats to die. [And I am cynical enough to think this was behind some of the early ignored suggestions as to how to slow down the virus — now verified by the news I read.]

We then had the Administration cheering on those who were brandishing guns and demanding that states reopen. We had the Administration downplaying mask requirements. We had so many comments coming from the Administration about re-opening that they kept me believing they DO want us dead in those closed states.

But —making my thinking worse for me, it is now the beginning of the school year in many states, and we see that in some states school children are being told they have to go back to school or face serious consequences. And if your area does not have decent internet, you can not do distance learning — and you have to physically go back to your school.

Already I am reading of quarantines for some school classes and teachers — and I expect I’ll read of a lot more as more schools reopen.

In one high school, a student posted a photo of the crowded mostly maskless hallway and was suspended. When we do not like the message in some states, we go after the messenger. [Edit — apparently the student’s suspension was negated and will not be on their record — my guess is that was due to all the attention the photo got.]

Teachers are pre-writing obituaries — but the Republicans in Congress and some Statehouses are apparently still thinking “go to work and possibly die, or stay home, lose your income, lose your unemployment, lose your home, lose your healthcare — and then die….”

With the virus now spread to almost every area of every state and not just found in the bigger cities — and not just found in the blue states — the death toll is growing—and the Republican base is also among the dying…

I am still pondering why the Republicans want us all dead….
