Black men and white women!
Those words alone are probably stirring up emotions inside of you as we speak. Relax, this is not an article that is condoning or denigrating these relationships. It damn sure is not going to bash black women.
What we will do is analyze some reasons why black men fall in love with white women.
Let’s start by saying, every situation is different and it’s not a one-size-fits-all argument. Some brothers might have fallen in love with a white woman because they were childhood sweethearts.
Others could have grown up in a predominantly white neighborhood and had no sisters around to date.
Physical attraction could also be a reason why a black man will choose a white woman over the others. After all, one can’t control who they are attracted to.
Generalizations are not always indicative of every specific situation.
However, we can surmise that many black men choose white women because of outside influences. Many of these reasons are not discussed whenever conversations regarding this topic arise.
Here are 3 reasons why black men love white women:
- It goes against societal norms
Since the time black folks were brought to this country, it has been taboo for black men to seek the company of a white woman.
Society dictates many of the norms we operate from, and society has always viewed this relationship dynamic as abnormal.
As inhumane as slavery was, a black man messing with a white woman would be treated with even more cruelty.
Crimes against white women by black men have always been treated harsher than similar cases with different demographics involved.
Many black men over the history of this country were imprisoned as the result of a white woman lying on them.
Black men and white women are at opposite ends of the societal chain in America and that produces a level of discomfort for some people when they are together.
It also causes some black men to want to go against those norms and in a sense, rebel against society. When certain things are deemed unacceptable, it makes some people want to try it even more.
Tell me something I’m not supposed to do or have, and I’m going to want it even more.
2. Media, Movies, and Celebrities continue to carry the trend
We know how big of an influence television, movies, social media, sports, and music have on people of all ages and races.
Many young black men see their favorite rappers, athletes, and social media influencers dating white women and it becomes appealing to them.
This isn’t a trend that started yesterday. Famous boxer Jack Johnson, who became the 1st black heavyweight champion in the early 1900’s was notorious for dating white women. He was married three times, all with white women.
Many other black celebs have married white women, including OJ Simpson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Taye Diggs, Tiger Woods, etc. Not to mention all of the other athletes and celebrities who regular date white women, which are too many to name.
My point is, people are influenced by what they see on tv or the computer or phone. Without even realizing it, a young black man could attribute money and fame with dating white women.
We tend to want the things that our role models have.
These relationships are no different and contribute to the amount of black men who choose white women.
3. Past relationships
This one is less relevant than the other two in my opinion but still something to consider. A great number of black men have been in failed relationships with black women and women of other races.
For this reason, they have decided to start a relationship with a white woman.
Even though there situation was antedoctal they may feel like choosing a woman of a different race will produce a better result.
This is something that men and women do all the time. For example, a man or woman might have been abused by a person of a certain race and because of that, they are not attracted to others in that race.
It doesn’t mean that they would be abused by them, but mentally this trauma is enough for them to look elsewhere.
The men that fall into this category should realize that there are billions of people on this planet and choosing to omit women of a certain race as potential partners does not make much sense.
All black women are not the same, like women of any other race are not all the same.
Conclusion
Some black men are all about bashing black women and for that reason choose to date white women. I’m excluding these brothers from this conversation because there is no argument to be made for them.
However, In this article, we have taken an honest look into other significant reasons that can lead black men to become involved romantically with white women.
There is nothing wrong with men having preferences or choosing to date outside of their race. It is important to explore reasons that might cause them to do so.
Things are much different than they were 50 years ago concerning black men with white women. However, don’t think for a second that it isn’t a topic that isn’t discussed from people of all demographics.
Black men have always been among the most disrespected groups in America, and whenever they are involved with a white woman, it seems like everyone has an opinion to give.
