Why Did the Cattle Cross the Road?

Traveling udders.

Can we cross? Photo by author.

Driving along U.S. 89 in Logan Canyon during the fall of 2020, we saw a sign that warned of possible cattle on the roadway. I am not lying and took a picture because I didn’t believe it.

We ended up driving on U.S. 89 going north and south. On the first drive, we didn’t see any cattle, just the sign. I was kind of hoping to see cattle crossing the road. Not every day you witness that in a canyon.

It’s true! Photo by author.

The section of U.S. 89 we were on goes up to Bear Lake and into Idaho. We were headed up to Paris, Idaho to see the old tabernacle and we’ve never been there. Wish I could tell you how beautiful Bear Lake was, but it was smoky due to the wildfires.

After we drove to Paris, we headed up a few more miles to Montpelier just to check it out and say we’ve been there. You never know what you’ll find for the next adventure just by taking a few minutes.

Don’t mind me. Photo by author.

We decided to start heading back home after driving through Montpelier. The view was the same, smoke and all, so I was looking forward to getting back into Logan Canyon to escape the smoke for a while and maybe see some cattle crossing the road.

I don’t remember how far we were into the canyon before we caught some cattle crossing the road. They just started crossing the road right in front of us. Fortunately, we had time to stop and there wasn’t a car in front of us or behind us. I’ll admit, we were worried about either hitting a car in front or behind us if we did find some cattle crossing the road.

Wait for me. Photo by author.

There ended up being several cows crossing the road, not giving a care that they were stopping traffic. Just like bison, traffic stops for them. So, demanding they were.

Typical me had my camera out trying to snap some pictures that would hopefully turn out, which they did. I even managed to get a video of four of them crossing along. The sign didn’t lie and I was so happy.

Not every day do you get to see and take pictures of cows crossing the road. We still don’t know why they did. Probably for some food. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

If you like to know about the Paris Tabernacle, check out my tabernacle story.
