Summary

The author, "Wild Bee," discusses the irrelevance of traditional religions in the face of human evolution and the unifying power of shared human experiences, while advocating for the inclusion of science in art and the empowerment of black mothers in leadership roles.

Abstract

In an opinion piece titled "Why Bother with Religions When We Are Flying on a Rock?" Wild Bee expresses a personal view that religions, with their outdated doctrines and discriminatory practices, are no longer relevant in the modern world. The author argues that human connections, diverse family structures, and a sense of belonging are more important than religious affiliations. Drawing from personal experience, Wild Bee describes raising a daughter without the need for a traditional family unit, supported instead by a chosen family of diverse backgrounds. The article also touches on the wonders of the universe, quoting the author's astrophysicist uncle, Oswald, who emphasizes humanity's place on a "flying rock" and the importance of evolution and scientific understanding. Wild Bee, who lives in Berlin and works as a forklift driver and Web3 techie, integrates science into art and invites readers to consider the collective impact of all living beings on the planet's future. The piece concludes with a call to action supporting black mothers for leadership positions and a plug for the author's other works on the platform.

Opinions

  • Religions are seen as outdated, promoting man-made fears and discriminatory practices, particularly regarding gender, sex, and love.
  • The author believes that human stories, social fabric, and a sense of belonging are more crucial than religious structures.
  • The article suggests that the concept of family can be redefined beyond traditional norms, as demonstrated by the author's own experience of raising a child with the support of a diverse community.
  • There is an emphasis on the importance of evolution and scientific understanding, with a nod to the contributions of Kepler, Newton, and more recent discoveries in math and quantum physics.
  • The author values the integration of science into art, suggesting it enhances creative expression.
  • Wild Bee posits that the future is shaped by the collective actions and reactions of all species and natural forces, not solely by human endeavors.
  • The piece advocates for the empowerment of black mothers, suggesting they should hold leadership positions globally.

Why Bother with Religions When We Are Flying on a Rock?

Spirituality is nice, but…

Religions are outdated. That’s my personal, very humble opinion. An unpopular opinion. But well, that’s me. Wild Bee. We are humans, yes. And we like stories, yes. And we wanna have some social fabric.

Family and stuff. Yes.

But why religions? With all these man-made fear and sex-is-sin and old men in robes kind of shit? Why bash people because they love someone just like them?

Gender-sex and love and lust are dirty? Why? We all wanna belong, don’t we? And it might be easier to belong to our own kind than to another gender.

Men come from Mars and women from Venus.

A well-known fact. And not always easy to handle.

It’s why I never told May’s father that he has a child. He wouldn’t have wanted her. And I can’t do that to my child. Being unwanted.

So I raise her alone.

Or, alone… I have a huge family of black, white, grey, and rainbow relatives who all wanna be aunties and uncles and grandparents to her. Not to mention my friends who want to be close to her too.

No need for a dad.

Or do you see that differently?

Space & Our Gaia

Let me return to the subject at hand. Religions. I get distracted easily, as you can see from my texts. That’s my right brainy kind of being. But I always return to the middle in some time.

Don’t worry, I’m not difficult to understand.

I’m a Wild Bee in Berlin. With all the English, German and Japanese going on here. All these languages make me thrive, but for you Americans that might be hard to understand.

Let me share an important fact here to state my case about religions. My uncle Oswald tells me all the time:

“Bee, we spin with 1000 miles per hour through the universe. We are thinking and dreaming animals on a flying rock. And evolution is the only truth on this planet. Biology. Nature. Human Nature.

Of course, we feel this spinning in our bones. And we are glad that gravity keeps us connected to the surface. Or in the case of airplanes, keep us flying. We don’t know what gravity is, really.

In 2003, the new math has been discovered, and that brings us one step closer to understanding. In the past, it was Kepler. And Newton. But of course, they didn’t know all there was to know. Quantum came. And now the new math gives us even more to know and create with.

Engineering and chemistry will be fun again.”

My Uncle Oswald is an important astrophysicist. A bit mad. But he made me meet many astronauts, so that’s cool.

But unlike him, I became a forklift driver and Web3 techie.

Different kinda tech.

Better for Medium hustles. Art is my big love. And understanding science helps me do my art. Do, you put science into your art ever?

Dreaming with Gaia

I lived with my uncle Oswald from when I was 16 and became intolerable for my parents. And I was always dreaming about his words in the years that followed. Spinning. Space. My bones feeling the pressure of gravity. Stories. Beliefs.

Would religions have an impact too on our planet? I think so. It must do. All these people praying…

Do animals pray too? The praying mantis does for sure… Hahaha

Praying mantis. Picture wikipedia

And I came to the conclusion that the future is made out of ALL actions and reactions of ALL humans and species and volcanos and rivers and hurricanes.

In short, it doesn’t matter so much what I’ll do.

In short, it matters a lot what I do

In short, who knows how evolution will evolve…?

Buy me a coffee. Let’s chat…
