Why Black People Don’t Give a Damn About The Beatles
White people love to insert themselves into everything
I’m sick of this constant Beatlemania everywhere I look.
I took a music history class on The Beatles. Each of us had to do a presentation on any influences The Beatles had or how The Beatles may have influenced other musical genres.
A white girl did her presentation on how The Beatles “inspired” 21st-century rap music.
Hugh.
Let’s slow our rolls here.
First of all, we’re not about to pretend that The Beatles invented rap music. White people take Beatlemania so far out of the ballpark it’s ridiculous.
Well, I have news for those types of white people who think The Beatles inspired everybody and everything down to the fucking water we drink — black people don’t give a damn about The Beatles!
Here’s why.
I’m not generalizing every black person when I say this. But if you walk up to your average black person, chances are they only know one Beatles song AT BEST.
You’ll have some outliers, of course, but they’ll be hard to find.
So how can The Beatles inspire black people, let alone rap music, when most black people barely know one song by them? Here’s the thing.
Black people are more infatuated by the fame The Beatles had rather than their music.
Just look up rap songs like “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremurrd. They don’t sample any Beatles music. They just say they’re black and they’re just as famous as The Beatles.
Heck, even rappers using Beatles samples in their music is misleading. In most cases, rappers are not producers. Their main job is…umm…rapping?
So there’s no way to tell if these rappers were inspired by The Beatles or not.
I’m not here to say The Beatles were trash.
I’m just saying that white people need to stop inserting themselves into every genre that was CLEARLY invented by a black person — especially rap. The Beatles aren’t that appealing in the black community because The Beatles themselves stole loads of R&B music and made a watered-down version of it for mainstream audiences.
White people can keep it.
I’ll take my original black artists any day.
