Why being open-minded is good for you
First of all: what means being open-minded? That’s a question I should ask myself and define it.
To me, open-minded is that you are interested in other things than you already are. Also, within your interest, you can be open-minded.
When I play the violin or I listen to classical music, I can be open-minded. I can listen to new music or another classical music genre.
Example — when I only listen to baroque music, then I can be open-minded to listen to music from other composers one century later. This music is different then baroque music (Bach, Vivaldi and so on), like music from Mozart. Also, I can listen to Beethoven, or music from composers from this century we’re living in right now. These musical styles are different to listen to. You have to listen to it differently than the baroque music.
I also can be open-minded to listen to other music genres than classical music. Tha’s very different than listening to classical music at all.
What I want to say, is when you have a certain job, hobby or what else, within that certain job, hobby or what else, you can — maybe you must — be open-minded to stay focused on what you’re doing and the opinions and options you (already) have.
Interests in other subjects
There is another must: a must to know other subjects with their skills. To develop yourself as a person in life. You know more than you already did. Like developing yourself as a kid, but you also have to do it as an adult, because you’re not done learning in life.
When you’re a teenager, you’re at school learning stuff you should know, like history, languages, maths end so on. But did we learn life skills at school? I didn't. Only some technique stuff I wasn’t interested in. What if I did show my interest in technique at school? Did I learn to make a bench for my garden? I think I would. I’m still young to learn it myself.
Why being open-minded?
Why you should be open-minded? Just because to learn new life skills. When you learn them, most of us are delighted and happy they know and they can do something else. We are more capable of skills then we think in the first place.
Whe I started making radio, I thought I couldn't do it, but I actually can, because I learned how to do it from experienced people.
Also, for being a local newspaper correspondent I had to learn to take pictures.
When my daughters went to school for their first year, I had to learn how to keep a note of all the school information.
Most of the use apps, and yes, you have to learn how to use these apps, thus new skills in life: working with apps.
Most important life skill I learnt was being voluntary in events etc…
