Why are your poems rejected?

We strive to create a community that is safe and accepting for poets around the world. Poetry acceptance comes with love, understanding, and patience. If you feel that your poem has not been accepted because of something outside of yourself, please read the following story before resubmitting.
Let me start by saying that you shouldn’t take any of these comments as a rejection of your poetry. Poets that submit to us have so much promise that we can’t help but want to see them succeed as published writers if we can help. At least a fourth of a poem’s task is to meet the editor in their specific emotional moment; this is a not-so-hidden secret of editing. We’re real individuals with our own histories, challenges, triumphs, and emotional and physical wounds. If your work has been denied, it does not always reflect its linguistic quality.
Instead, it wasn’t sent to the appropriate venue at the proper time.
The editors are like elephants
They can’t forget a single thing. Their memories are so long and so deep, they seem to live under water as much as on land. When we’re together it’s not unusual for one of them to mention, “I’m sorry but I had a dream about you last night.” Or they’ll say “I don’t know why but I think this poem is about you.” And then they smile so sincerely at the thought, that it becomes clear the elephant wasn’t apologizing at all. . . . The elephant was praising me!
This being said, look out for these often made errors:

1.Verify that you have the right to use all the images. You can’t use Google’s image search results without the original photographer’s or artist’s permission. How to Use Private Notes
2.An editor will use Private Notes to discuss your work. When you join The Power of Poetry publication, switch on Private Notes (it’s not automatic). Then, when you click on your Icon, choose the matching choice from the drop-down menu. Accounts allow private notes. Activate if not. If so, check the right margins for * markings. It tells you your editor sent a personal note. Without personal notice, editors must reject your work. Likewise, they’ll reject your poem (s) if you ignore the private message.

3. The Power of Poetry does not require specific file formats for submissions. However, our editorial staff has found that recommendations from poets using distinctive ways of editing (only capital letters, only bold font, etc.) are nearly always of lower literary quality.
Editors will likely promptly reject unusual fonts, colors, and formatting. As readers, we are conditioned to think this way. If the poem’s main innovation is a new format intended to make the poetry “visually unusual,” then you’re probably damaging your chances of publication.
Have fun with it, try new things, and don’t be afraid to be a little bit strange; writing is a craft that requires constant, diligent practice. However, not every experiment is meant to be broadcast to the world. Poems written for the sole purpose of honing one’s art need not be shared with the world.

4.The poem you are writing does not conform to Medium’s standards. If a publication publishes your work and is deemed unsuitable by Medium and notified, both your account and the publisher’s account will be terminated. Please read and follow all of Medium’s policies.
The Right Time
5. The most surprising reason for rejection might be the poem’s publication date. If your poem was published a few months ago, there is no point in submitting it for publication. Unfortunately, Medium’s algorithms do not promote historical poems. So if you submit a draft, it will be boosted by Medium and the editors.
Some of the above reasons why poems cannot be published are technical or based on rules for publication. However, the most important thing is that the poems should provide value to the reader, and this is crucial when it comes to publication.
