Why Are We Rushing Fall?

We still have another month and holiday to celebrate.

Years of therapy and practicing coping skills for my anxiety and I have learned to be present and in the moment. It’s taken a lot of hard work and will be a constant work in progress.

Being present means not rushing into the future or thinking about the past but right in the current moment. Today on my way in the house from work I took a minute to enjoy my pumpkins and mums on the steps on this beautiful fall day less than 24 hours after Halloween.

After our yearly tradition of passing out candy with friends last night, I was scrolling through social media and I noticed lots of posts about taking down the Halloween decorations and putting up the Christmas decorations. Today was the same thing not to mention the Christmas ads already starting.

Stunned and shocked I thought to myself what about the rest of the fall? Why aren’t we taking the time to enjoy the season? And what about that other major holiday in November?

It’s as if we are all just rushing time. We are not taking the time to enjoy what we are celebrating because we are too busy gearing up for the next best thing.

After reflecting on this last night and today I’ve decided that this November I’ll be making it a point to stay present, enjoy my fall decorations ( maybe not the Halloween ones), the mums on my front steps, and the leaves falling. And when the day after Thanksgiving comes and it’s officially Christmas time I will then be focusing on that season.
