An article like this: “How much money I made on Medium this month” will do very well. My first income report also became my largest earner.

Ok, we get it, income reports do well on Medium, but why?

Reason #1

We might want to read income reports in order to compare ourselves with others. Am I earning above or below average?

Reason #2

We might just want to hear tips from creators who are more successful than us. The first show off their impressive earnings and then give you advice.

You are more likely to believe that advice because, if it has worked for them, it might work for you.

Displaying their Medium earnings gives the author credibility.

Reason #3

Reason 3 has a little bit to do with Reason 2. We might just want to read their stories because we want to motivate ourselves.

When we see that someone has earned more than us, we will be motivated again to write articles for this random algorithm.

Reading earnings reports shows us what is possible to achieve if we put in the hard work.

Reason #4

I don’t know about you, but I actually enjoy reading income reports. I don’t know how to describe this feeling, but it’s just fun to read them.
