GAIA’S WISDOM
Why Are My Tears Salty? Is the Wild Ocean Running through My Veins?
Poetry. Nature connection is all.

Wild Ocean through My Veins
My salty tears merge with the rain. Cold rain. Grey rain. Drizzle rain.
While I walk alongside the swollen river Meuse I see the flood, the mud, the cars floating. My tears won’t dry. My eyelids won’t open. The grief is too large for one woman only.
Why me?
My heart can’t dance. My soul can’t shine. No light to be found in music or sunbeams. It feels forced. It feels fake.
I cry for the forests, the soils, and the seas. I cry for the people who cry for me too. I cry for the freeze. And the fear. And the feral.
So much chaos. So many lies.
Why me? Why we?
The salt reaches my swollen tongue, she tastes and shivers…
And suddenly the light comes through. What if? What if? What if? What if the wild ocean is crying me now?
We are one!
Flooding Rivers
The floods of my river, our river Meuse in The Netherlands are heavy this week. And it’s only the second day of rain. They expect much, much more and dykes might break. (Words Dutch, pictures for all languages).
Why can’t we take responsibility for all the damage we have done? For all the damage we are still doing? Why can’t we feel the time has come for radical evolution?
My country has gone mad. The horrific predictions are all there. But we can’t feel the urgency, apparently. We daren’t feel the need in our bones. We keep shouting at each other. We keep advertising fake solutions. Trying to come out as political ‘winners’ whereas there can only be losers.
So I cry. And I write. And I think maybe the best solution is to connect people to nature. Let’s feel her. Let’s cry for her. Let’s hear Mother Nature’s call.
The virus is not another problem! It’s not separate from the floods and the fires and the rainforest destruction. We just created our human systems stupidly. Without respect for the laws of our only home. Earth.
And all the while, Branson, Musk, and Bezos are playing a pissing contest who can escape with a few rich mates to the Moon or Mars fastest.
Sorry to disappoint you guys, there’s no Plan B.
Nature-based Solutions
Of course, I will never leave you on the edge of a doom scenario. There are so many possibilities to get involved in nature-based solutions and turn the tides. The future is Nature’s wisdom. We are evolving slowly but surely from the Anthropocene to the Symbiocene.
When we connect to the land, our lungs will be filled with wisdom. And we have our Elders, as David Chinook Bean pointed so wisely out to me.
Want to connect? You can subscribe to our newsletter on our website Abundanism.com or find me on social media. I’ll be somewhere on our beautiful planet, with my hands in the soil and my eyes gazing at quantum leaps towards a better future. Thank you, Mike, for adding your wise energy to my words.
