Why am I Getting too many Facebook Friend Requests from Strangers?
Facebook doesn’t seem to care to stop strangers treating us badly and abusing us
I just came up with an amazing incident yesterday when I was reading a list of comments for a problem. I wanted to find out whose comment it was. But, the name was mentioned as ‘anonymous’. Here is the story.
“I just had a pretty bad experience yesterday. I am an active social media-centric person who follows people to get insights and feeds. Yesterday was a life learning experience when I sent a request to a strange girl. And there came the story she started messaging me that she was on travel that she needed a recharge instantly. I doubted her and asked her how come a girl on a first instance get to believe a man.
So I called her to confirm and there she was abusing me and threatening to use my profile photos with derogatory and abusive words and she asked me to recharge else my pic would be posted. No other option till I had to change my privacy settings so that I could stop my further pictures from being downloaded and misused.
She posted my picture on her wall that hell of an idiot. The story did not end there and she asked for another hundred but this time she threatened to tag that picture with my friends and families with the view of damaging my image. Reported her spam and blocked her.” (anonymous)

Why are you getting many Facebook friend requests every day?
Let’s discuss the possible reasons for it.
Firstly, maybe you are a more popular character among your friends and maybe you are so pretty, handsome, friendly, and your beauty and appearance attract people toward you. You should be happy about it.
Secondly, some people could be at your school or office. They may think that “Oh yeah I have seen him or her before.” It leads them to send you a friend request.
Thirdly, It could be someone having a crush on another. They may want to see what you post and how you are doing.
Fourthly, could be a friend of a friend. They could dislike you or be curious. Might be a jealous person to see how much you interact with someone on posts.
Finally, the person might like or love you, and he or she is too afraid to talk to you about it. So they rather contact you through Facebook.
These are the most possible reasons that I’ve come up with.
My experience
Anyone on Facebook can add you as a friend. If you’d like, you can adjust your settings so only “ Friends of Friends” can send you friend requests. I have always been set for receiving “Friends of Friends” but receive friend requests from many people that I don’t know, dozens and dozens a day that I have to delete every time when I log into the app. Some don’t want “Friends of Friends’ request either. There is no additional privacy setting for this.
Why can’t I just have the option of saying “no one”?
I only want people who are my friends to be able to message me and not strangers. But, you don’t have ability to prevent people you do not know on Facebook from messaging you.
We can’t stop random people from messaging you on Facebook messenger, the best way is to block them when they message you. You will see new messages on “ message requests”. Then open their profile on Face book and block them. Then, they can’t see you. But, from a privacy setting, you can select who can send a friend request to you.
Why can’t we just have another option for it? Some people are not really interested in what strangers or the unknown people are doing. They just want to deal with their familiar friends.
Personally, I have a selected number of people that I correspond with and I am not interested in friend requests. But all of us are still getting requests from the strangers.
Some strangers may send out a bunch of friend requests per day. I have learned not to accept any request from such people. Please block them and keep your profile to private, so only people you know can send you a friend request.
Why am I still getting too many Facebook friend requests at every minute?
1. The algorithm for showing mutual friends has increased.
2. This also increases the number of spam requests too.
3. Sometimes, your “Friends of Friends” recognize you and they would like to be friends on Facebook.
4. Some people just want to see what you post and your progress, your lifestyle etc.
5. Some strangers want to get money from you.
6. Another set of strangers may need to get your private details for various purposes.
I personally accept people I really know well, and trust. I hope it is a good enough answer for the problem. But sometimes I accept requests from Medium writers because I know who they are.
We can identify people through their attitudes. My medium friends are the best Facebook friends I have. They encourage me and helped me for my creative works. How do I stop unknown people from sending me messages?
In Messenger, you have three options for it.
1. We can select the option ignore messages
2. Or can block them on Facebook
3. Or can block them on messenger
Another thing you can do is place a request for this feature via Facebook’s feedback page. And also, we can use Facebook help email @[email protected].
It’s true that we can’t block friend requests from strangers completely. So, if we are receiving many friend requests from unknown people, the only option is to change our privacy settings.
1. Just click the privacy settings.
2. After that, you can select “edit settings”
3. Select “Friends of Friends” next to “how people can find and contact you”.
Nothing to be frightened of. Just be a little cautious. You should be extremely careful who you are sharing your personal information with. You need to understand who you are dealing with.
Don’t accept friend requests from someone you don’t know to prevent unexpected messages.
