For example, there are many datasets of faces, but not as many of hands.

A dataset like Flickr HQ has 70,000 faces, while popular ones annotate 200,000 celebrity faces.

So, there are only a few datasets with around 11,000 hands, which may not have been used to train AI models effectively.

How Hands Act

The way hands move and interact is another factor that makes it challenging for AI art to create realistic hands.

Hands have many joints and are highly flexible, which means they can bend and twist in many directions.

This complexity makes it difficult for AI models to capture the full range of motion of the hand.

Additionally, hands interact with objects in a unique way, with the fingers conforming to the shape of the object. This creates a challenge for AI models to create a realistic depiction of a hand holding an object.

Low Margin for Error

Finally, there is a low margin for error when it comes to drawing hands. Unlike other body parts, even a small error in the placement of fingers or joints can make a hand look unnatural.

Hands are highly recognizable, and even slight deviations from reality can be detected by the human eye. This means that AI art has to be incredibly precise when it comes to drawing hands, which is difficult to achieve.
