Why Adults Should Write Letters

The benefits of writing letters as adults.

As adults, we are just going with the flow and do what we must do. The things in life, our family and friends, and our work. We just pass through the day without being conscious of what we are doing and why we are doing the things we do.

That is totally fine, but I believe that we also must do something fun and totally out of your comfort zone. We must do something we have never done before, or pick it up again, to go out of your comfort zone, and perhaps you will find something new within you. You will find things about yourself that may surprise you

Writing letters is one of them. And I mean, writing by hand and not through digital tools.

Writing letters is one thing I believe adults should do that too. Hundreds of years ago, people wrote letters to each other. Now we have e-mail and other social media, but hundreds of years ago they didn’t have all those writing tools. They wrote letters to friends, family, and acquaintances.

People in these times enjoyed writing letters.

In those letters, they wrote the other person what their daily habits are, what their concerns were, and things they have done during the amount of time they haven’t written a letter to each other.

Some people you could call good friends, even if you didn’t meet briefly before.

Being creative

Writing letters makes you also being more creative. You think about the art of writing. How will you put your words in your daily conversations? How can I write this or that piece much better? And you have to remember what you wrote and clarify what you meant if still, the other person didn’t understand.

Order your mind

When writing your letters, you are more clear to order your mind, not only by writing your letter or your writing piece, but you also order your mind in your daily life.

You have in your mind when, what, and how you have to do, what you want and what you need to do. Your sentences will flow through on the paper and through the ink of your pen.

Leave a legacy

Who knows where all your emails go after you die?

Nobody knows.

When you write letters and you receive letters back, you can keep them and save them inbox for your ancestors. They will know who you are, what you did, what your thoughts were and you name it. It will be left behind in an archive so you have a legacy left behind.

Your history will be touched by your ancestors.
