Why Adopt a Simple and Minimalist Lifestyle?
8 reasons to become minimalist
Minimalism does not mean living in cardboard boxes and having nothing to eat. It’s not just how many objects we have, it’s how we live our lives. And the objects we have, are they necessary for us and complete us?
What is the minimalist lifestyle and why you should consider it?
Minimalism is a process in itself. In short, it means living simply. Use the things you need and surround yourself with experiences that bring you a state of happiness. Eliminating in parallel those that create negative emotions.
The minimalist lifestyle is based on the concept of giving up everything we don’t need and use. It can be a “cleaning” of the wardrobe and giving up the clothes that we haven’t used for a few years, giving away books that we keep in the library and we will never read them again. Or “cleaning” the circle of “friends”.
We are left with less, with the essentials.
Which prevents us from having a simple lifestyle
Given that the global marketing machine uses any type of media to promote products and services and to encourage consumerism, the average person is bombarded daily with thousands of messages — newspapers, radio, TV, internet, presenting products. Their ultimate goal is to sell, whether the product is needed or not.
This way we all end up “wanting” things that we see on TV, in newspapers or on the internet. The desire for their purchase is a short road.
In the long run, this leads to the accumulation of thousands of things. When we bought them we were delighted with them, then gradually we used them less and less.
From an honest and objective perspective, however, we find that we do not need 50 T-shirts. 5–6 would have been enough.
We don’t even need a fitness bike and we keep it packed on the balcony. I never needed it. We could have gone for a run in the park. It would have been more efficient if we didn’t load the house with another object.
In short, a minimalist lifestyle is characterized by:
- A simple life based on experiences that bring us value,
- Control over the accumulation of things,
- Buying the things we need and use, avoiding being influenced by advertising.
8 reasons to become minimalist
1. You depend less on the social norms of a statute. The media abounds with models that try to convince us to consume more, to buy more. A simple, minimalist lifestyle means giving up what others expect you to have to have a certain status.
2. Decrease the negative impact on the environment. Fewer objects and possessions automatically mean less packaging, less plastic thrown away.
3.More money. By spending less on things, you will have more money in your pocket.
4.Economic crisis. The crisis itself is a reason to move towards a reasonable lifestyle that eliminates unnecessary consumerism.
5. Less time for cleaning. A home that has the necessary area and suitable for your family is easier to clean and maintain than a house with 2 floors and 6 rooms of which you use only 3.
6.More free time. You will save the time you used to clean, maintain, shop, repair, wash clothes. This way you can reorganize and increase your productivity.
7. You focus on the things that are important to you. I’m not going to give you a sermon, but do you need plasma with a diagonal of 100 even though you can only afford it on credit? I’m not suggesting you don’t have a TV, but isn’t a simpler one enough for you? A minimalist lifestyle helps you stay focused first on what matters to you.
8.Quality relationships. Less time and energy spent looking for things means more availability and openness to work on quality relationships. Relationships are like anything else: the more you work on them and do something concrete to become better, the better. Or do you still believe in the myth of quality relationships that work effortlessly?
