Why 4 AM Hustle Is Overrated

You might be sacrificing your health in the pursuit of your wealth.

Stay awake till 4 AM, sacrifice sleep, and whatnot these guys having a Lamborghini behind them, preach on Instagram and in the ads popping up in between the YouTube videos.

Many teenagers and people, especially and in their 20s, often think that if they are not hustling in such a manner, they aren’t going to be successful in life. But that’s not the case. You might be doing more harm than good to yourself by sacrificing your sleep for the sake of “hustle”.

Offended? Give me a minute or two, let me explain my point and then you yourself may decide whether or not to buy it.

Why do I think so?

The cost of all those sleepless nights is more than just mood swings.

This article from the United Kingdom National Health Service says that mental health gets too serious after several sleepless nights. The brain will fog, making it difficult to concentrate or make decisions. Moreover, continuous sleepless nights may also lead to several serious medical conditions such as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

This article from Healthline says that lack of sleep ends up disrupting your Central Nervous System, causing chronic insomnia, which in turn, adversely affects the way your body sends and processes information. It deteriorates your immune system, digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and endocrine system.

In fact, about indigestion, the Ayurveda says, “The food you cannot digest ends up digesting you.”

Now please tell me, how will you hustle efficiently when your brain can’t function properly? What’s the point of the hustle when the wealth you earn ends up being wasted in the hospital for your treatment during your 30s and 40s to save your life.

What’s the point of becoming a millionaire if in my 30s or 40s, I become diabetic, and I can’t even have a Gulab Jamun after becoming a millionaire?

Hustling isn’t a bad thing, in fact, that’s a key factor for success. Wait, am I not contradicting my own statements given above? No, not at all.

The point is, what do you think of when you hear the word, “Hustle”. If you think of staying awake till 4 AM or 5 AM, sacrificing your sleep and your health, for the money, that’s not the right mindset.

A better way

If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, monkeys will choose bananas because monkeys do not know that money can buy a lot of bananas. — Jack Ma

The same can apply to your health too, good health can make you a lot wealthier than what you would be based on its sacrifice.

Ensure that you have a good night’s sleep for at least 7 hours, have a balanced diet, and keep yourself physically fit. I think, with all the aforesaid things in hand, you’ll be left with 14–15 hours. Can’t you increase your productivity in that time? Even if you have a job, can’t you hustle in the remaining time and still have at least 7 hours of sleep?

You don’t need to destroy your sleep or your health for your hustle.

Wealthy are those who devise a method to earn while they sleep, not the ones who sacrifice their sleep to earn more.
