Who Would Get My Money and My Time?

A response to Happiness + Wealth’s 10-question challenge

HAPPINESS + WEALTH ⭐shared an interesting challenge. They posed 10 questions, but added this statement:

Respond to one, a few, or all of these prompts at once. Mindfully enjoy this exercise as the writing process should be as fun as finishing the story.

The questions they presented are deeper than some of the typical 10 question challenges. They require some thought, at least for me, and I also didn’t want to quickly dash off answers for the 10 and shortchange what I thought were some excellent questions.

So, I’m doing something a little different. Some of the questions seemed to go together on different topics, so for myself, I’m going to break the ten questions into five groups of two questions. Then I’ll try to answer one set of questions each week. (Notice that ‘try’ is the operative word here. I might get this done in five weeks…and again…knowing how life has been for me lately, it may be five months before I finish all ten questions.

Here’s the two questions I’m working on for this round.

2. What is the first charity or organization you would donate to if you received a windfall, and why is that cause important to you?

This one I’ve got to chat about, because there’s not an easy answer for this one. I can’t say ‘St. Jude’s Medical Center’ and go on to the next question. Although that is one of the first charities that came to mind. And although I think so highly of the work that St. Jude’s does, and would gladly donate to them, they wouldn’t be who I’d go to first if I received an windfall and had a huge amount that I could donate wherever I wanted to.

I don’t know exactly who I’d go to, but it would definitely be one that would benefit children. Initially I thought that I’d go with a charity that helps sick children, but upon further thought, I’d rather choose one that provides food for children and families in need of nourishment.

But I’d be very picky. I know there are many excellent providers, such as North Texas Food Bank, that delivers so much to so many. But I want to find one that delivers HEALTHY food to those in need. Not the typical boxes of macaroni and cheese, and cans of baked beans and soups high in sodium.

HEALTHY FOOD!

An organizations that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and foods that aren’t highly processed. That is where I’d want to donate to. And if I couldn’t find one? Then, I may just have to start my own organization that could provide healthy and nutritious foods to hungry children.

7. If you could spend 3 hours volunteering in any capacity at any place, what would you be doing, where would you be doing it, and why?

This one was easy-peasy. I’d volunteer at a local animal shelter. But not to help clean cages or do administrative paperwork. No stuffing envelopes and sticking on stamps.

I’d be an officially designated cuddler.

Give me a cat or dog that needs some love. I wouldn’t mind walking the dogs that need to get out and stretch their legs. But let me pet them and snuggle them and cuddle them and wrap them up in love. That is what I’d spend my three hours doing!
