Who Wants to Retire at 40
4 ways to understand what you want

Reading about people with millions in a bank account, who live their lives on an island would have certainly piqued your interest.
If you run a business or work in a company, the thought of early retirement might have crossed your mind.
Google came up with 20,30,00,000 in 0.54 seconds for “What do I need to do to retire at 40?”

Every financial company in the world has something to say about money needed to retire at 40.
You calculate the money factoring inflation, yearly increments, expenses for kids’ education, diagnostic tests, hospitalization, and travels. You even expect yourself to die at a random age.
But your daily expenses doesn’t allow you to save enough to stop working.
And after a few days, you lose the plot and again move on to monday blues and rocking weekends because that’s what you’ve in your life. In between, you spend time in playing dirty office politics, travelling, gossiping, cleaning your kids’ diapers, making love, and fighting with your partner.
With time, you convince yourself that early retirement is a far-fetched dream, and is for people who are born with a huge bank balance.
Let me push you to ask yourself — Why you want to retire at 40?
What would you do if you don’t have to make money anymore? What would you be working? Will you just travel? Or will you live on an island?
But even there, what would you do? Are you the king of an estate, that people tell you their painful stories and you’ve to decide about their lives?
In reality, it’s not like you don’t want to work, but you’ve issues with your current lifestyle, and you don’t know how to change it. You’re probably convinced that this will continue until you retire, and that’s where the thought of you wanting to retire has sprouted.
The rules and regulations that bind your current lifestyle are out of your control. You can not change it out of the blue. Maybe you don’t like -
- Your current job
- Your oppressive client who’s the biggest stake in your business
- or you live in an undesirable place because of your work profile
You want to follow your passion but it can’t make you enough money, so you have to do something else you don’t like, but that makes you money.
And you silently dream of having a princely estate from your ancestors and envy the people who do. Subconsciously, this makes your desire to retire and live the similar life.
Not having a solution to your current problem, and thinking that you can fix everything with retirement, makes you to think of it.
To get away from this idea, you clearly need to know your problem and figure out the solution.
Maybe it’d reduce the pain if you change your company, get away with the disturbing person, change the team. But after some time, you’ll again face the same problem again. You can’t run away from it. After some years, you’ll want to retire again.
Changing client, job or team isn’t a solution. You need to be clear on what you want from your life. The reason you want to retire is you don’t like your current life and you don’t know what you want to do?
Financial companies and social media influencers take benefit from this vulnerability, and they sell courses and wealth management plan that would help you accumulate enough wealth to retire. You might end up accumulating some money but with the cost of giving them the premium from your savings.
What Then Should You Do To Understand What You Want
1) Travel
The first need is to get all unnecessary thoughts, insecurities, and fears out of your head. You can travel to any place on your wish list that you’ve wanted to go to for a long time, but somehow didn’t plan it. Now is the time. Plan it. Take people who love to spend time with you.
2) Take Good Books with You
Find out what you’ve been wanting to learn but never had the time. Skills like stock trading, effective speaking, changing habits, etc.
You can choose from a variety of books on the following sites
- For non-fiction books-

- For fiction,
Go to: whichbook
3) After Return, Talk to People who Listen More Than They Talk
Share with them your thoughts about life and your plans. Let your feelings out.
4) Engage in a Hobby
Exercise, dance, run, write, read daily.
These actions will clear your mind and give you the space to think about what you need. Slowly, you will start seeing epiphanic moments telling you — what you need?
Do not plan your retirement, but plan to do things you wish to do in your life. If you can do such things, then you don’t need to retire.
You can start planning your retirement, oops, planning to live your wishful life by daily reflecting that-
- Is this what you really need in your life?
- Is this how you want to spend your life?
You are damn fortunate if the answers are positive, but if not, figure out steps to make it happen. Retirement won’t do anything.
Live your life.
