Who Set The Bar
AI vs HI, the challenge.

Reality
When it comes to writing, which is better, AI or HI? AI was produced from a prompt. HI was produced from experience, research, and thinking, and this was all accomplished by using Human intelligence.
Practical
This battle will rage on through 2024. It truly is top of mind for any author, writer, or those that write for television, movies, radio, or any other commercial medium or is called a creative.
If the profiteers looking for more gold realize that AI is not getting the job done, they will come crawling back, looking for a better story, one with passion and ENGAGEMENT.
Medium
It seems to me that Medium is at a crossroads. One that they never imagined and, now that it is here, have thought through. Medium has been here since August of 2012. Today, literally millions of stories are submitted for publication by one of their publications or self-published. Either way, every story competes for attention.
From My Point Of View
The absence of a strong position ON using AI allows for a Wild West environment. Why not control it? @Ralph Hammond, a.k.a. R C Hammond, suggested that there be two Mediums sometime ago—one for AI and a medium — for AI. And one for HI writers, commonly referred to as Medium.
Problem Solved
But is it? Medium has seen the numbers and the topics activity, AI vs HI, and, of course, all the surrounding topics for either AI or HI. Why won’t they weigh in?
There are now hundreds of publications within Medium. The editor-in-chief of many of these companies is saying they will not accept AI. Our own Dancing Elephant Press will not accept writing produced using AI.
Should There Be Exceptions
How do you feel about art and graphics being created from text? DEP is still accepting stories that have AI-generated art. But should we? Artists have a gift, just as writers do. The field of imagery is so wide, covering many aspects of the literary world. Is it too late? Should we roll over and accept it? What are your thoughts?
Heating Up
The AI vs. HI movement has ramped up much faster than we imagined. To me, it’s proof that it is becoming top of mind. Now, we need your voice and your commitment. If you haven’t declared yourself, then take this chance to do so.
You can say so in a comment, send us an article that spells out your position, or submit an article to be included in the book that committed writers are going to produce through DEP.
One Last Thought
I was talking with a granddaughter (she is eighteen and in college) about writing, and AI came up in the discussion. I asked, “Do you think articles, stories, and blog posts should be written using AI or human intelligence?”
She said, “Papa, I use AI for research and my amusement creating horrifying graphics (she is a programmer of horror games). I want any words I write to be my own. I believe the text to graphics language and prompts I’ve created are of my design.”
I worry about the impact of AI on our children. Do you?
