Who Said It… Outright Racists or The Unashamedly woke?
Because sometimes it’s far too difficult to tell.
The most important part of someone’s identity is their skin colour. Everything else is irrelevant
This is one thing that woke people and racists agree on wholeheartedly. If you aren’t making judgments about people based on their skin colour, you aren’t doing life properly? Don’t worry about personality, mitigating circumstances or anything else.
See the world only through the lens of race and you’ll sit fine in either camp.
Hey… I think racial segregation is a great idea.
The only difference between segregation and safe spaces is in the way it’s marketed to the general public. Human beings have worked for a hundred years to break down barriers in public spaces.
We have stumbled and bumbled our way into shared communities and learned to exchange meaningful cultural ideas.
Who are the only people pushing for a society segregating people by skin colour? Firstly, those stuck in a bygone era. Secondly, those who spend all their time in an imagined future utopia that has many of the same values.
You can try and spin it with faux-empowering altruism however you like — separating people by skin colour is exactly what it sounds like.
It always leads to the same place.
Black men who date white women should acknowledge this is fundamentally wrong on some level.
Self-hatred? White supremacy in action…. there are only two groups of people who think that skin colour should invalidate two human beings with different skin colour who love each other.
Racists who think it’s morally wrong and have an ‘each to their own’ approach. And the woke, who undermine anything other than viewing personal decisions through the lens of race.
All white people are racist.
This woke phrase also happens to be the end goal of the racist recruiter. Most progressives don’t realise constantly repeating this mantra has the very real effect of pushing moderates into the willing arms of the alt-right. The fact it is a true statement doesn’t make any difference. It’s a semantic issue.
It’s not just a phrase, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Black people should only shop at black businesses / White people should stay in their lane
Another goal of both the woke and racists is apartheid by the back door. Once black people are using black currency, only shopping at black businesses, supporting black artists the woke will be happy.
Help yourself to a side order of irony, because so will the racists.
In fact, by listening to either side we can readily transport ourselves back to the racial segregation of the 1940s. Good job everyone.
Let’s go back to the words of someone sensible.
“I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood.”
“I have a dream that little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
The rhetoric of racists is based on justifying those things that divide us. The voice of the woke doesn’t negate that, it amplifies it. It tacitly supports the same world view whilst maintaining that it doesn’t.
It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing and both the racist and anti-racist camps have plenty of sheep.
Racism is a big problem in modern society and one that needs addressing. Anyone suggesting it doesn’t exist and isn’t a problem hasn’t done enough reading. There are enough good writers and courses out there to become informed — but it shouldn’t be mandated.
‘I’m woke and you must do what I say and listen only to me’ is facile and counterproductive. There’s plenty of research out there. Society generally turns out new generations that are more tolerant than their parents.
Until recently that is. Play the long game. Because the short term win is the long term loss.
Trying to solve racism by being a woke warrior is like shooting yourself in the foot at the beginning of a race. Best case scenario you slow everything down for everyone and get in the way.
Worst case, you’re a total non starter.
