Who Needs a Vase When You Have a Honky Nut?
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shadows”
A shadow of their former glory
The kidlets at school have a fascination with making honky nut flower arrangements. Without water, the flowers (and the occasional pretty weed) wilt within 24 hours. So the next day, the kidlets return to claim their honky nuts. Then they head out to the garden and make a brand new arrangement for someone else.
Freshly picked, these arrangements look stunning and are always creative. I think we may have some budding florists at school!
For the non-Aussies, a honky nut is the gumnut from the Marri Tree (Red Gum). They are the largest gumnut, and make a distinctive noise when they land on your roof. They are one of the most dangerous flora in Australia … even though they don't have a drop of poison in them. Instead, they attack by stealth, laying in wait to feast on the ankles of those walking past. Step on one at the wrong angle (or any angle) and you can kiss your ankle goodbye.
Can you take a photo that represents “Shadows” and tell a story about it in six words?
