Who Is Thinking Top Of Mind

TOP OF MIND

When 2024 started, we were all talking about AI and its impact on the writing community. We were especially concerned about its impact here at Medium. It has been two and a half months since we started the HI Movement. I thought we should hear from both camps. First, we’ll hear from AI courtesy of my license at 123RF.

Note: This section was written entirely using AI (edited for relevancy by the author) after the following prompt: “What does AI think of Human writing?”

Artificial intelligence, as a non-sentient entity, does not possess personal opinions or feelings; therefore, it does not “think” of human writing in the way a human does…

AI tools can be used to support and augment human writing by checking grammar, suggesting stylistic improvements, and even generating content based on patterns it has learned from vast databases of text…

Human writing is a reflection of human thought, culture, and emotion, conveying ideas in ways that can inspire, provoke, and connect with readers on a profound level. While AI can mimic certain aspects of human writing, it does so without the genuine understanding or feeling that characterizes human expression…

From my 1213RF account.

WELCOME BACK!

(There is no AI in what follows): Writing for writers is many things. Here’s an attempt to list some of those: livelihood, passion, air, relaxation, a must, a large part of their personality, the way they view the world, and it is transformative.

I’m confident each of you could add many more things that writing means to you. But, today, let’s talk about being “Top of Mind.”

It’s hard for me to imagine something that’s so meaningful being anything other than at the top of my mind. To be clear, my priorities are still in focus. So you know, they are God, my wife, family, business, writing, helping others, and public speaking—in that order.

When we talk about me, I’m probably thinking about the next Drabble I’ll write, Dr. Gabriella Korosi, Rick Allen, and more than a dozen other writers I read and interact with daily. So, hopefully, we can agree that writing is Top of Mind for me.

STATUS

Our initial effort for the HI Movement was to release AI vs HI stories every Monday. We did that for a number of weeks. That effort has less of a push, but we have other interests affecting us as writers.

Losing the ability to write, monetize what we write, and connect to our writing community is devastating. In the last few weeks, this has happened enough to make it a top-of-mind discussion. This is especially true for many of us as writers and friends of those who have suffered in this way.

UPDATE

Our Dancing Elephant Press publication, AI vs. HI is in the editing process. This is difficult if you don’t know or have never written a book. It’s probably the most difficult part of getting a book published, and it can literally make or break the success of the book.

Depending on the author, book editors dealing with a single editor can be a nightmare. When dealing with multiple authors and styles of writing, the process is now exponentially more difficult but still doable. It takes more patience on the part of everyone involved. This book is on track.

We’re no longer publishing AI stories on Monday. They are available on any day based on the author's desire to publish it.

MY STATUS

I have a long list of people to be thankful for as a writer. I write the way I do and get the enjoyment I do from writing because of so many people.

I will continue my Wednesday Editing duties here at Dancing Elephant Press. From time to time, I’ll contribute articles, Drabbles, and stories. I will also continue writing the Random daily word Drabble challenge at Fiction Shorts.

I’ve recently started two writing-related businesses and will devote most of my time to them. You will continue to hear from me, but it will be less often. However, my offer still goes, “If I can be helpful, please let me know.”

THANK YOU

Gracias, Merci, Danke, Grazie, Obrigado, ありがとう (Arigatou), Спасибо, Dhanyavaad, 谢谢 (Xièxiè), شكراً (Shukran), Dank je, and धन्यवाद (Dhanyavaad) for all that each of you have contributed to the quality of my life. This is NOT goodbye; this is just saying we’ll see and read each other less often.

As always, thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

✍ — Your feedback has always helped sustain me as a writer. Thank you!
