Who Is The God Of Love
“Love is the bridge between you and everything.” ~ Rumi

God is Love. Love is God. As a spiritual being, this says it all. Is this a problem, merely switching the subject and object? What’s in a name, anyway?
Many of us know that our Higher Power has many names. Many names for the same energy that created all and everything. My name is James Boylan. I also am or have been called other names, all for the same human being who is writing this.
I am called or have been called James, Jim, JB, Red, (ya, a long time ago) Boss, Sergeant, Chief, and a host of other names, and not all would I call nice or complimentary.
The human race has looked to a Higher Power since recorded history that they believed ruled and/or controlled life’s circumstances. Our Higher Power was and is called by a name that may differ among whoever you ask what they call the Higher Power.
Oxford Languages dictionary defines God as: (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.
In certain other religions) a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity.
Webster’s dictionary defines God as: God : the supreme or ultimate reality: such as. a. : the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped (as in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism) as creator and ruler of the universe.
Some of the names for The Higher Power are God, Lord, Father, Abba, Allah, Buddha, It, The Big Guy Upstairs, Ra, The Sun, The Moon, and many others.
And, as James and Jim refer to me, they all refer to the same energy or spirit that created and guides all of us beings.
God is either everything or nothing. I prefer to believe that God is everything. So, another name for God is Love. God is love because God is everything. Eros is the Greek God of Carnal Love. God is Love with no qualifiers. How can something so simple be so difficult?
Actually, it is not difficult as, since God is everything, God is also Love and Love is God. We were all born into this human experience as spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings having a spiritual experience.
This human, Earthly experience is quickly changed when we are surrounded by various people who influence us from the time of our human birth. Why? Because God also granted us free will.
We are earthly results of other human beings expressing their own free will on us, many times from birth. Some good and productive and some not so much.
Rumi, the 13th Century poet, philosopher, scholar, and Sufi Mystic, said “I belong to no religion. My religion is love. Every heart is my temple.” Now, that thought I do love.
I really like Rumi’s thinking. Now, with my new cat, whom I named Rumi, I just know that I am on the right track. I can be taught love by the feline Rumi.
Thank you, God!
