Summary

The web content provides an overview of the personal lives and careers of Russian President Vladimir Putin's daughters, Maria and Katerina, and touches upon rumors of a third daughter, while also discussing Putin's efforts to keep his family life private.

Abstract

The article delves into the family background of President Vladimir Putin, focusing on his two known daughters, Maria and Katerina. Born to Putin and his ex-wife Lyudmila Shkrebneva, the daughters have lived a life largely shielded from the public eye. Maria, now a medical researcher, and Katerina, an acrobatic dancer and businesswoman, have pursued their education and careers under pseudonyms. Katerina, in particular, has been noted for her involvement in a high-profile divorce and her role in a significant Russian startup incubator. The article also speculates on the existence of a possible third daughter with Putin's rumored girlfriend, Alina Kabaeva. Despite Putin's attempts to maintain their privacy, his daughters have occasionally been in the spotlight, with Katerina making appearances on state television and at public events.

Opinions

  • The author suggests that Putin is a caring father who has gone to great lengths to protect his daughters' privacy, including using false identities for their education and careers.
  • The article implies that the Putin daughters, especially Katerina, lead lives of privilege and influence, with access to significant wealth and opportunities.
  • The piece hints at a contrast between Putin's public persona as a strongman leader and his private life as a father, quoting his ex-wife's remarks about his softer side.
  • The author seems to question the level of secrecy surrounding Putin's family, particularly in light of the public interest and the potential impact of international sanctions on their lifestyles.
  • The mention of Katerina's divorce and the revelation of her substantial wealth suggest a critique of the opaque nature of the wealth and influence of the Russian elite.
  • The article's focus on Katerina's public appearances and her role in significant national projects indicates a belief that the daughters' activities have political and social implications worth scrutinizing.

His daughter’s names are Maria, 36 and Katerina 35. Maria was born in Leningrad in 1985, and Katerina was born in Germany in 1986 when the family lived there during her father’s time in the KGB.

Their mother is ex-wife Lyudmila Shkrebneva.

Both girls are named after their grandmothers. Maria’s nickname is Masha and Katerina’s nickname is Katya.

When the family moved to Moscow in 1996, the girls attended a German-language school. The girls reportedly left the school when Putin became acting president. They were home schooled from then on.

Not all fathers are as loving with their children as he is,” Lyudmila said in a quote on Putin’s government website. “And he has always spoiled them, while I was the one who had to discipline them.

Under false identities Maria studied biology in college and went to medical school in Moscow. Katerina majored in Asian Studies in college.

Maria and Faassen reportedly have one child. Putin disclosed to filmmaker Oliver Stone in 2017 that he was a grandfather.

When Stone asked if he played with his grandchild, Putin replied, “Very seldom, unfortunately.”

Katerina reportedly lives a Princess life, living in lavish apartments and acquiring a fortune.

Katerina, 35, is an accomplished acrobatic dancer. She is also heading a $1.7 billion startup incubator. And has a senior position at her alma mater, Moscow State University.

Her appearance did not include comment about her father, President Putin. The link surfaced briefly in the course of a dance competition, and later deleted.

Katerina married Russian billionaire Kirill Shamalov in 2013. But the couple divorced in 2018. The divorce case revealed they were worth $2 billion.

There are no official current photos of the girls. For Katerina, there are slightly varying first names “Katerina”, “Katya”, and “Yekaterina,” and the last names “Putina,” “Tikhonova,” and “Shamalov.”

Finally, there are rumors that Putin has a third daughter with girlfriend and former Russian rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabaeva.

The child nor the relationship with Kabaeva have been confirmed.

So his daughters can live normal lives. Putin has tried to shelter his children from the media.

Despite Putin’s shelter, Katerina made her debut on Russian state TV as a biotechnology expert in December 2018.
