About Chris

Get to know me a little here…

Sometimes it’s difficult to figure out if you should pay any attention to the things you read online. There’s a lot of stuff out there, and you don’t always know who is behind that news article, blog post, video, meme… or what their intentions are.

So, let me tell you a bit about me: Who I am, why I’m here, and where I’m going.

Who is Chris?

Me! I’m Chris! — Hello!

I’m interested in how people choose to spend their lives.

I think it’s the ultimate expression of our innermost values.

Whilst I’d love to be able to talk with authority about how other people live their lives — their how, their why, and what their underlying values are — I don’t think that’d be very authentic at all. Do you?

Instead, I write about what I can speak with authority on. My lifestyle: the way I’ve chosen to live — the how and the why.

So, how exactly do I live?

Good question.

With a career in startups, I was mostly based in London, UK for a long time. But my heart beats for travel. Seeing the world, it’s places and the people is my biggest curiosity drive.

So, back in 2017, I made it my mission to transition to full time remote work (remember, we’re talking pre-pandemic here), in the hope of feeding my soul without detriment to my career.

The wheels moved slowly at first, and then really quickly. Through 2018 I worked all over the globe, from Hawaii, to Sydney.

Something was missing though, and in 2019, I made an effort to slow things down, and spend 4–6 weeks in a given location. Slow travel makes life sweeter, and soon I was spending my time 2–3 months at a time.

The concept of digital nomadism goes way back.

But global interest in this lifestyle has grown over 50% since 2017, largely as a result of the pandemic. I can’t say I’m surprised…

Working Remotely Changed My Life

It makes it possible for me to fulfil my travel dreams, and feed my curiosity for the the world.

I want to unlock that same possibility for others.

Some people have the desire, but lack the means, or the confidence to ‘make the leap’.

For a while, whenever speaking with people, or interacting online, I promoted and recommended remote work as a means of unlocking a better lifestyle — whether to enable travel or something else entirely.

But that just wasn’t enough.

In 2019, I launched RemoteBase.co a digital nomad accommodation newsletter sharing the best deals for travelling remote workers, slow travellers, and the growing location independent community.

Starting 2021, I commit time to writing as an additional contribution to that mission:

Help others find and unlock a better lifestyle.

To do that…

I write mostly about

  • Travel, and slow travel
  • Life, and lifestyle decisions.
  • Remote Working

I write less about

  • Personal Finance
  • Minimalism
  • Self Awareness

and I don’t write about: food, relationships, history, politics, or sports.

Having blogged in various places on the internet over the years. I was mostly a reader on Medium, until I wasn’t. Now I’m looking forward to the writing chapter.

That’s me…

Thanks for spending some time getting to know me. Hopefully enough to help you understand whose clacking away at the keyboard behind your screen.
