Who do you think you are?
Telling me what I can and cannot do!
Who do you think you are?
To think you can tell me what I can and cannot do!
You have no right
Try all you might
BUT listen deep and true
I am me, and you are you
You have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do.
Who do you think you are?
To think you can say whom I can and cannot see!
These are my friends
Togeather our fun never ends
You can stay or you can go
Time is for enjoyment and being in the flow
You have no right to tell me whom I can and cannot see
You have no right to attempt to destroy my delight
To love and care with respect
Is what I dare to expect!
So who do you think you are?
To order me about, do this, do that, is what you say
Because you want it another way
Perhaps you are unaware
It is my choice, again I declare
You have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do.
Who do you think you are?
Are you aware? Do you even care?
It is so unfortunate that we have been raised in a world that is so unclear about are basic right of choice. Our choice to select who we are, what we do, who we spend our time with, how we contribute, who we love and who we don’t.
While we proclaim the rights of equality and individuality, too often, too many live by the laws of might. The law of might is a law of force, violence and deprivation of our basic right of choice.
Indeed the rule of might is so dominate almost all of us will use, it at times, without being aware.
In order to move from disrespect and might, to respect and empowerment, we all gain by considering our actions and if what we are doing is considering the needs and desires of all involved.
Have we even taken the time to be present, listen and discover what we really want and what they really want? Have we considered the options, explored the possibilities and how we might all have what we really want? Have we considered everyone’s right of choice, recognising no one has to do what we expect them to.
Are you aware? Do you care?
Or are you, just after what you want!
I say all this with passion.
It is all very important to me.
Yet I have to say there are times when I too, just what things my way… and forget to ask… this is not my preferred way.
