Summary

The article recounts a real-life observation of a monitor lizard eating a tortoise, drawing a parallel to a lesson from the Bhagwad Gita about self-awareness and destiny.

Abstract

The narrative centers on a vivid, real-life encounter where a monitor lizard consumes a tortoise, as observed by Avanti, a friend of the author. This event is likened to a dialogue from the Bhagwad Gita between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, where Krishna advises that a wise person should be as composed and self-contained as a tortoise in the face of life's challenges. The tortoise's calm demeanor and focus during the ordeal are seen as an embodiment of the lesson to remain detached from external circumstances and to accept one's fate gracefully. The author reflects on the incident as a reminder of the natural laws that govern all life and suggests that humans, with

Who Are You Like In Real Life — Lord Krishna or Arjun?

A real-life experience that literary compares to a lesson from the Bhagwad Gita.

“How does a Perfected one move around in the world?” asks Arjuna at zero hour of battle. “Like a tortoise,” answers Shri Krishna.

Ever astute – his core fully engaged with the awareness and agility to pull all extroverted appendages back into his shell at the slightest sign of temptation or danger. Thus, not in the least bit entangled or disturbed by the going on’s in his surroundings, whatever those going on’s maybe.

The goriest yet captivating sight of a monitor lizard completely devouring a tortoise – so err mmm … skilfully, had my friend Avanti stop during her fast track and field run and watch on in awe.

She found that the focus in both the hunter and the hunted was just breathtaking. The fact that both were amply equipped by nature to prey as well as protect themselves respectively was a wonder beyond comprehension. And how both went about their feast and their, fate left her speechless!

She said, “How the episode unfolding before her this morning evoked the memory of the above-mentioned dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, was just observing how wilfully the tortoise held himself together for as long as was possible, impenetrable by this inevitable danger that had him clutched in its merciless jaws.”

And yes, she saw maybe one instance of him trying to make an escape when he was accidentally dropped on the ground – but no, he was picked right back up without a breath’s delay.

And then – she sensed no resistance at all from the tortoise. Safely engulfed inside his protective covering – fully engaged “within” he gracefully succumbed to his destiny. Without any drama or struggle and what cleanly appeared to me in a relatively painless way – swallowed whole without being shredded to bits!

Fascinating are thy ways Life! Reiterations in every way and form that we too are a part of this one cosmic design. If we only care to pause and observe how the lesser evolved go about their lives, unerringly following the very wise albeit built-in laws of Nature – we will realise we too are to follow the same except gifted with “free will” to understand revere and live out each of those laws in full consciousness with some flair, style n consciously contribute to our own Spiritual edification reaping the fair and just rewards thereof.

Once again, don’t forget to scroll up and view the fascinating super shot, which is probably the last smacking of the unforgiving lips of the monitor lizard.

And just like that the tortoise … crossed the rainbow bridge 🙌

This is a real incident as described by my friend Avanti who resides in Singapore and took place yesterday morning when she was out for her run.

Don’t you think these little incidents, especially real-life ones, enable us to think and learn from them?
