Who Are You Becoming?

Let’s talk about how defining ourselves from past experiences can be our first instinct but detrimental to our growth.

Looking in the Past to Define Right Now

Many of us look at our past to define who we are and predict what we’re capable of. For me personally, I defined myself as unworthy based on my past experiences during my childhood. Year after year I would continue to date men that made me feel unworthy. My brain was doing its job though. It was constantly trying to scan my life for evidence to prove this past belief to be true right now.

The problem with this thought pattern is the past doesn’t have the tools to show us how to do things we’ve never done before. It can only pull from memory which is extremely limiting when we’re trying to think about who we want to become. This is one of the reasons why it was so hard for me to start dating men that were worth my time and energy. By letting my past habits define who I was right now, I would continue to repeat the past and have the same results in my life.

There’s no rule book that explains to us what we can and can’t think about ourselves. Today I want to offer a new way of thinking that will not only raise the vibration in our lives but shift our thinking so it can truly serve us. When we remind ourselves every day of who we are, we’re causing our brain to fire in the exact same way. How do we get different results in our life then?

Steps You Can Take

The first step is getting really clear about who you want to be. Your future is not based on what happened to you last night, last year, or when you were seven years old. It is determined by the thoughts you’re thinking right now. Read the following concept below a few times, until it truly sinks in for you:

  1. Your thoughts create your feelings
  2. Your feelings create your actions
  3. Your actions create your results

You have complete control over the outcome of your future and this is why people that go through similar situations have different futures. It all started with how they choose to think about their experience. If you want something to change in your life but you’re defaulting to your past to find evidence that’s it’s possible, you’re not allowing yourself to create a different future. The more specific you can get with your future goals the better results you’ll get. Really take the time to figure out exactly how you want your future self to think, act, and feel.

Once you have a clear picture of where you want to go, you want to make those thoughts come alive. Starting today, define yourself based on that image of your future self. If you want to become a successful writer that makes seven figures doing it, tell yourself right now “I am becoming a writer”. Think about what thoughts a person in that position would be thinking. If someone is already making seven figures, they’re not thinking about how to make seven figures, they’re thinking even more massively. So think grand and allow your present self to shift into that role. Your brain will start looking for signals that this new thought is true. This will allow you to continue to take action until you get the result you want.

The final and most important step is believing your new thoughts. Affirmations alone don’t get you results. If you’re telling yourself you’re a successful writer but you don’t truly believe it, you’re not going to create the feelings that come along with those new thoughts. Instead, you’ll still be stuck in your previous low vibration feelings such as self-pity, doubt, or unworthiness which isn’t going to generate action on your end. Those thoughts will paralyze you and five years down the road, you’ll be in the exact same place. If you truly believe that you’re who you want to become right now, your feelings are going to have a high vibration. This in return gets you to take action!

“To be empowered — to be free, to be unlimited, to be creative, to be genius, to be divine — that is who you are…. Once you feel this way, memorize this feeling; remember this feeling. This is who you really are….”

Final Note

If you don’t choose for yourself who you want to become, the world will choose for you. Take an hour tonight and figure out who you want to become. You want to shift the cause and effect that is happening in your life and become the one causing everything in your life from a place of intentionality. It all starts with what you’re thinking right now. Be generous with yourself and set the bar as high as you want.
