White Fragility Is A Book About Racism
Written by a white American woman academic
Diversity is a part of living in the United States.
The full title of the book is: White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism. This is a 2018 book written by Robin DiAngelo about race relations in the United States.
The author is an academic with experience in diversity training. She coined the term “white fragility” in 2011 to describe what she views as defensive instincts or reactions that a white person experiences when questioned about race or when considering their own race.
DiAngelo views racism in the USA as systemic and sometimes perpetuated by individuals subconsciously. Many believe that is the case.
Racism is something that has existed in the United States from its earliest days. People may feel superior to others because of the color of their skin or other factors. Racism is not only by white supremacists or people who feel their white privilege.
After the killing of George Floyd by a police officer during the COVID pandemic in 2020, protests against racism and police brutality of Black men brought the issues to the forefront of society.
White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism was published by Beacon Press on June 26, 2018. It became a New York Times Bestseller almost immediately.
The book has had mixed reviews, but it has discussed the problems of racism in a way that some people do not like.
Racism continues to be a big problem in the United States. Some believe that the battles over the southern border and illegal immigration are based on racism.
